Two divers and our non-diving spouses are coming in Sept. for a week. Which resort has the best pool and maybe some off shore snorkeling as well. Rooms need to have A/C. So far Plaza, Belmar & Sand$ seem the top choices. Thanks, Mike

I'm a non-diving spouse (snorkeler) and will making my 5th trip to Capt Don's in March. Have your spouse read my trip report (copy/paste link located in my profile). :-)

Mike -

We have stayed at the Plaza Resort only (4 times), but we think your non-diving spouses would enjoy the grounds; the nice size, nicely landscaped pool; the beach (one of the largest sand beaches on the island, but put that into Bonaire context) and most especially the snorkeling in front of the hotel. We have snorkeled several, certainly not all, locations on the island, and the area in front of the Plaza is one of our favorite. The underwater sea life is abundant and the snorkeling is in calm water with close-in reefs.

There is a beach bar (Coconut Crash) and a restaurant on the water (Tipsy Seagull). We've only had drinks from the first (they were good) and we've had very good luck with the Tipsy.

Please be advised that in September the usually constant easterly breeze sometimes dies. When that happens, you feel the full brunt of the Equatorial sun (not to be confused with tropical sun...you've moved up to the big league now). That's when the Plaza's air conditioning that will freeze a side of beef is most welcome.

I think you've probably read enough on this board to know you'll want hard-sole footwear for shore entry at most points on the island (not at the Plaza and most resorts with a ladder) and that sun protection, in and out of the water, is a matter to be taken seriously.

We've got a few pictures of the Plaza that I would be happy to send to you directly via e-mail if you would like.

Please know that it has been over a year since we were on island so things can change.

Y'all are going to have a great trip no matter which accommodation you choose.

Bon bini na Bonaire!

My husband is a non-diving spouse. He prefers Belmar. Laid back, quiet, nice pool, great docks. Very large and clean rooms. We love it there.

Oh yeah, well my non-diving spouse prefers Eden Beach. Been to the Plaza, to expensive and spread out, although its is very nice and quite pretty. Belmar is even prettier (and more expensive).

All kidding aside, Mike any of the ones mentioned should make your spouse quite happy. They all have nice facilities, pool and AC.

We have been to Buddy Dive 3 times and our non-diving spouses have enjoyed their stays. Two pools, plenty of shade as needed and within walking distance of Lovers ice cream.
