I've enjoyed reading the messages on Bonaire Talk for a long time. It's great to read about everyone's experiences in Bonaire. Bonaire is my favorite dive destination.

My friends woke up in July with a man standing over them in their room at Carib in. Their camera and housing, watch, money etc was stolen.

we used to stay at carib inn all the time before we bought our place. i loved it there. good clean rooms, great staff, great dive shop. i know there are security bars on all the windows and on the balconies on the upstairs rooms. we always felt safe there. we still use them as our dive shop.

Thanks for all the replies. We will take everyone's information into consideration and just use our regular caution when travelling. We're very much looking forward to our trip!

I glad to hear Bruce has stepped up security and I hope it's working for his place. He has a wonderful reputation and the 2 incidences last summer were not good. My friends were not the case you mentioned. They spent a week there, and then moved to where our large group was staying for a second week. Their robbery was more mid-week. I'm not trying to bash Bruce's operation, but I wanted to reply honestly to a very point blank question that Susan asked.

We spend a couple of weeks at the Carib every year. The last few years we've been renting Number 2 which is close to the entrance. We leave gear drying in front of our unit during the day, but put it up before dark. We've never had a problem yet. So far, we've never had anything taken anywhere on Bonaire.

Yes I ride, but not in Bonaire. I have a Valkyrie Tourer that's been all over the states. I get so wrapped up in diving and the Ocean in Bonaire that I never take the time to rent a bike. If our dream of wintering in Bonaire after we retire ever comes to pass, I'll have to find a way to keep a bike on the island.
