We are trying to get back to Bonaire but are stumped on accomodations - web pictures only go so far! Anyone stayed at either place? Sun has a great location but the interior looks kinda cramped. Port Bonaire is in an unusual location but looks so nice. First hand experience is so valuable! Thank you in advance for your help. We snorkel seriously so the dive shop is not as important to us.

a few years ago we dove with some people who stayed at port bonaire. they said the KLM jet felt like it was landing in their room. i guess it depends on where your room is located there.

I'll be staying at the Sun Oceanfront apartments Feb 3-18. If you can wait a month, I'll let you know how it is! Will try to remember to take some pictures of the place. I can tell you that so far the Sun Rentals folks have been GREAT to work with.

We stayed at Sun Oceanfront in 2004. It is very convenient to town. Bert at the on-site dive shop is the best. We were doing our first dive within thirty minutes of checking in. We stayed in the penthouse apartment and the porch there was great. If memory serves, the one bedrooms are on the first floor, the two bedrooms are on the second floor and the penthouse is only thing on the third floor. The pool is a nice addition. The staff on site is very nice. The apartments are all furnished a little different from each other. I can't speak for the other units, but the penthouse was spacious. We will stay there again. Jeff

Hi Carol... In 6 trips to Bonaire over the last 2 years, we have stayed at Sun Oceanfront Apts 5 times - their location is really great, so close to many good restaurants, equally convenient to north and south shore diving sites, decent shore diving right in front (esp for night dives), quiet, and the dive equipment storage/rinse tank/tank availability/presence of DM Bert are all wonderfully convenient. Josie, Muys and their staff are super friendly and helpful. Negatives: there is not enough parking room inside the gate when all the apts are filled, the bathrooms are very small, and some of the units are a little tattered, but then we only slept and showered there - left with our 6 tanks in the morning and returned about sunset. Their arrangement with Buddy allows you to pick up or drop off tanks there - and Buddy's is good and ultra convenient for night dives. Did I mention how nice it is to sit on the deck and watch the ocean each morning while you have your coffee. There are "nicer" places on the island, but when you weigh everything, SunOceanfront gets our vote. If you stay there, say hello to Josie and Muys from Bill and Donna!

I am considering SUN OCEANFRONT APTS. Also affordable, seems to be Lighthouse Beach Resort. I have not checked availability yet. But can anyone recommend Lighthouse Beach Resort over the Sun Oceanfront Apts?

Terri and all: We stayed at the Sun Oceanfront Apts. from Jan. 23 to Jan. 29, 2006. We stayed in the Penthouse Apt. also and truly felt it was awesome and very spacious. While we did not stay in the other apts., several walk-bys and one walk-through visit appeared to be somewhat roomy. It was our first experience in Bonaire and we plan to return to the Sun Oceanfront apts. Josie and staff are wonderful people and Bert at the Dive Shop is extremely accomodating. The Dive Shop is actually a satellite of Buddy Dive, so you are able to take complete advantage of all the Buddy Dive facilities. We are new divers and had never dived solo until this trip...it was very easy for us with Bert's assistance and the ability to use the Buddy Dive facilities, boats, tanks, etc. The location was fantastic..very close to restaurants..very secure...and all within walking distance. The sunsets are beautiful and the local outside dock bar became an every evening visit for us watching the sunsets! I don't think we could have found a better place to stay and in a very convienient location also.
