Hello:
The missus and I are planning to visit sometime in late February or early to mid March and are looking for a relaxing beach front facility conveniently located, i.e., within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, etc.

Although we might dive we are really looking for relaxation. Wife is looking for a place with a freshwater pool...my desire is more basic, and consist only of a hammock and a good book.

Price is less of an issue but less is better. Safe, clean and in good repair is desired. AC and hot showers are important, as is friendly staff.

Any suggestions?

Mike, Plaza, Carib Inn, and Divi are the 3 closest I can think of that are within "comfortable" walking distance to town.

while each has its advantages, I vote for the Divi :-) I've been many times and it is a perfect fit for me. check out each through infobonaire.com

Be advised Mike that Bonaire is not known for its beaches as they are few in number and small in size. Shopping is limited and I'd be curious to know if the Divi or the Carib Inn has central air versus ac in just the bedrooms. I've never stayed at these places so I don't know. Sounds like that knowledge would be important to you. I'm not sure I'd classify the Plaza as within walking distance to most restaurants and shopping. Depends on how far you are willing to walk I supppose. The three times I've stayed at the Plaza, the pool has never been available. Just food for thought.

Divi ac is more than sufficient (I don't know about the others)... two pools at the Divi, one near the studio units, the other one more central to the rooms. The Divi is the closest walk to town of the three mentioned and has a restaruant on site, Carib Inn is right next door to the Divi, Plaza is more of a walk. I believe Plaza also has a restaurant on site. There are lots of restaurants on Bonaire of course, again with the Divi and Carib Inn fairly close walks to most of them. It's true there is not alot of shopping on Bonaire, but there is some samll variety of shops available. And there is at least one small local art gallery - very good artists. At the Divi there are hammocks to just relax in. Snorkeling off the Divi beach and docks is very nice and relaxing too if you like. The Divi staff is a mixture of very friendly people if approached in that way and others who are quiet and not in your face. Good luck finding the right place for you.

we used to stay at the carib inn and loved it. it's small (nine rooms and a house) but very reasonably priced. there are studio units, two-room suites, and two bedroom units. ac is more than adequate but hardly ever needed due to the breezes. the pool is really nice. great dive shop and dive operation. it's right on the water and has a good house reef. however, as i said, it's a small place and has a very loyal following therefore is usually booked up far in advance. i'd at least give them a call though.
