Has anyone stayed at Windsock Apartments? What was it like? Thanks for any information you can give.

Sue, I did a keyword search and came up with these 2 trip reports. Keep in mind, one was in 2003, and the other in 2004.

Good luck!

My wife and I stayed at the Windsock about 2 to 3 years ago. The first time it did not have a pool and then the second time it did. It was a new and quite well appointed apartment with two separate bedrooms which were separate from the living room and kitchen area. They had cable television and a fully appointed kitchen. We stayed on the second floor of the building. You will need a car to get around unless you want to dive at the establishment next door, just down the street (name escapes me now). Good snorkeling at Donkey (aka Windsock) Beach. Quiet area, relaxing and pleasant place to eat your home prepared meals on the large terrace of your second floor room. Of course, they located at the end of the runway of Flamingo airport, so you will have the occasional Jet airliner noise a couple times during the week. The young couple who own and run the place lived on premises at the time. We had an apartment right next to theirs. They were quite pleasant and accomodating. They worked a lot and were only home during the evening. The maid broke one of the cabinet door hinges and the young man of the owning couple (BOB) offered to fix it for us just after working all weekend on a Sunday night when he and his wife had company for dinner. I took the screwdriver from him and told him that he had worked enough. Go and relax with your family and friends. I fixed the cabinet myself and returned the screwdriver later. He genuinely thanked me for my gesture. We liked the place and the couple who ran it. The privacy was without comparison of any place we had stayed previously on the island. If I wanted a quiet and top notch place to stay on the island, I would not be hesitant to stay there again. Just remember that my information is about 3 years old and things may, or may not have changed since our pleasant stay at the Windsock. I do hope that Bob and his wife are doing well and that the Windsock is still as nice as we remember it.

Regards, D. Paganelli

OK. Windsock is the best place on Bonaire to stay, but it is a secret so don't tell. It's modern, and clean and a pool and a beautiful kitchen and living room, etc. It's almost in Belnam and right beside the airport so if you are a light sleeper it is not the place for you!
The KLM plane comes in around 2Am like a giant earthquake. So whatever. Wherever you stay on Bonaire is fine and we should all be so lucky to be there!
