My husband and I are arriving on Dec 2 to celebrate his 50th birthday and our 5 year wedding anniversary. It's our first time to Bonaire and we are VERY EXCITED!!!

I'd love feedback on how we should celebrate. We'll be doing alot of diving and snorkeling and just plain relaxing without kids and "real life". Looking for romantic beach walks, great food, and etc. in addition to the great diving.

All input would be greatly appreciated!

Have dinner at Richard's, and reserve the table on the dock. Let them know about the birthday.

Actually we don't have many sandy beaches, but I found a place for a PERFECT stroll, especially romantic. Just south of Flamingo Beach is the area where the kite surfers "do there thing". The area is quiet and desolate at night, usually. The area is nice, sandy and long enough for a stroll. Congrats and enjoy! Another suggestion for a nice dinner, Den Laman. We've eaten there and they have cozy 2 person tables on the water that would be perfect!

I had my 50th Birthday in Bonaire at the end of September this year, it was a blast and thank you to my friends who made it such fun especially "Tiffany".

You can also pre arrange a "special" meal at Rum Rummers (Capn Don's) down by the Ocean on the lower levels. If you ask Floris the owner (and head Chef) with Nannie his wife to cook something off menu they will do it. You can read our trip report on http://www.bosundog.com/Bon092005.htm this a new website and hopefully I will get to load the full set of pictures for this trip this weekend. We are due back in just over 2 weeks time

Welcome to Bonaire Talk, Penny! You will not be disappointed in Bonaire.

I spent my first wedding anniversary and my 39th birthday there last month, and it was perfect!

For our anniversary, we chose Richards and reserved the table out on the dock. It was an amazing view, and the food was outstanding! I highly recommend it.

On clear nights, it is beautiful to go south of Pink Beach by the slave huts and view the stars. Especially pretty when the moon is out.

mary is right, viewing the stars from pink beach and south is great. but i like it when there is no moon so you can see a few zillion more stars.

and get up really early, before sunrise, to watch the flamigos take off. park between red slave and willemstoren lighthouse about 15-30 minutes before sunrise and watch them as they leave just as the sun comes up.

So, how do I go about approaching Floris the owner of Rum Runners or reserve the table on the dock at Richards? Is it really that friendly of a place? The more I read, the more excited I get. We're down to about 36 hours before we are on the plane!!!

After you have arrived and are settled in, go to the restaurant you want and ask for a reservation. Tell them about your special occasion. If what you want is reserved, they will go out of their way to accommodate you. Bonaire is a very special place in many ways; fine dining among them.

Penny, we just went to Richards for dinner one night, and then reserved the table that night for the following Sat. It was no problem at all ! :-) You can always just stop by too and check it out (don't have to have dinner) and make the reservation.

Warning--here, birthdays are different (Hobbit-like)--if it's your birthday, you're expected to treat every local person at the bar with you to a drink (so don't loudly announce this at a local bar, unless you're prepared)! I learned this the hard way--my first year here, when it was my husband's b-day, I had them wish him a 'happy birthday' on the radio....he wanted to kill me! Everywhere we were that day (back when we owned Cozzoli's), people asked for drinks to help us celebrate. Also, it's traditional for people to congratulate your spouse too, with a "Pa Bien" in honor of your birthday.

Hmmm...how did Kelly and Yana get away with us buying our OWN drinks at her birthday party? LOL!

Pat, I agree, they both owe us a few! LOL!

Note to self: Next time I'm on Bonaire, I will have to make sure to announce that it is my "buddies" birthday so I get free drinks...
