Hi - we have pretty much decided on Belmar for March. We aren't divers but they do have a room/car rental package. If we rent the car through them do we still pick it up at the airport? The price for a Hertz vehicle wasn't any more and we are considering just renting from Hertz but wonder if there is any advantage to getting the car from Belmar? We will be coming in at 8:38 at night. Not sure if that makes a difference?

Thanks for clearing up my questions. sue

Sue -

The thought I would add is that you might consider starting your rental the morning after you arrive with the idea that you won't use the car that night and thus save at least part of a day's rental.

And, if you are flying out quite early, you might return the car the night before your departure. Same story...save at least part of a day's rental.

Susan, last time on Bonaire we got a package through Belmar. The convenience with going with a package is it's no hassle. (This was the first time we had gotten a "package" the other times we did all separately) The only negative we found was that apperantly a LOT of resorts use AB, so the line was LONG to get our car and it was a long 26 hour trip for us (thank goodness Martin and Angela met us with beer!) and the rest of the rental windows were empty...Look at Netty's or Everet's if you decide not to go with a package. Their rates are reasonable as well.

Charles, how much is a cab to Belmar and back. They would have to take a cab to Belmar, back to the airport in the morning, and same thing the night before they depart. Would that be the same as the rental? Or is there another way to do it.

Cyndelee, Susan -

Your point is well taken.

I was assuming the Belmar included transportation to/from the airport. If cab rides are involved, they might just cancel out the extra days.

I really don't know what is cab fare from the Belmar to Flamingo Intl., but I'm sure someone on the board does. Once we know that, then the rest is just a matter of what the rental company charges.

Charles, I am curious about the cab fare too. I don't think Belmar provides transportation to and from the airport if you don't have a car (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong):-)

BTW, I have a "list" of "things to do" I need to compile and send you for Thanksgiving:-)

In August, it costs me US 12.00 to get from airport to LBR for my son and I. Our luggage too of course! :-) So... LBR is about 30 seconds down the road past Belmar, so.. maybe US 10.00 for two?

On our last trip we booked our car through Belmar. When we got to AB at the airport they had no record of the reservation - Belmar forgot to make it. This was Christmas week and there was nothing available suitable for diving. Only pleading and the fact that we have rented from AB 8 times before saved us - the manager gave us his company vehicle for the week. To be fair Belmar was in the middle of a personnel change and we apparently got lost in the shuffle. We love Belmar, have stayed there numerous times and are returning in December.

There is no discount when booking through Belmar- it's strictly a convenience. Also if you book through Belmar you are not given the opportunity to decline insurance. I would just book directly with AB or whoever you get the best rate from.

Depending on your arrival time you will probably want the car to pick up the basics at the supermarket and go out for dinner the night you arrive.

Have a great trip!

-David

Susan: Just returned from the Belmar 2 weeks ago. This was our 6th trip to Bonaire. We got the truck as part of the package. I use AB when on Bonaire so I felt OK with the package deal through the Belmar. I turned down the insurance because I have an American Express Card with the Truck Rental Coverage. If you don't want the insurance, just tell the Belmar and they won't charge you for it. We picked up the truck upon arrival around 8:00 PM and drove to the Belmar from the airport. The security guard met us and gave us our room keys because the office was closed. He helped carry the luggage to the room. This was a smokin package deal from the Belmar so we went with it - I recommend the package simply because it is such a great deal IMHO. Make sure you get a truck reservation number from the Belmar before you go to Bonaire; do this and truck availability at AB upon arrival should not be a problem. We always get the truck upon arrival - we think getting to the resort by taxi or whatever and then going back to the vehicle rental place the next morning is to much hassle. Wakeup the first day and there's the truck out in the accomodations parking lot. Its all good. Have great trip!!

If you are planning on the Belmar in March I would recommend making reservations soon, if you have not already done so,as they were pretty full already when we reserved for February. Also I do not think that most US auto insurance companies cover you when you are out of the US..I know that my State Farm policy does not. Have fun on your trip.
