We are staying in bonaire at the sanddollar for 9 nights in december with a group of people. due to costs of flights we decided to stay extra day (saved us $600 in flights). Now we have to find someplace that is convenient to airport and cheap for that last night and am looking for recomendations. thanks terry

EVERY place on Bonaire is convenient to the airport; can't think of anyplace that's more than a 15 minute drive, including Sand Dollar. Why not just stay there the extra night and save yourselft the hassle of moving to another place?

because sanddollar charges like some major $$ per person. yeh that would be preferable but not at rate I was quoted for the 3 of us left. WE are 9 in group and rest of group leaves day before us. So looking for something cheap for last night.

Try Golden Reef, Liz would look after you really well if she has room and it would not be too far for you to transfer!

To Cinde (moderator)
Here other people gave their recommendation with the name of the resort and URL, can we do the same with our idea (the lodge where we stayed in August) or do you will think it is spam??
Italian Forums work so: you can tell what you want, here it looks fast illegal....
Waiting for a reply.so we can help either Terry either the owner of the lodge.

Dear Francesca and Paola,
We would love to hear about your adventures in Bonaire. What we don't need to know again is that you are"two Italian girls and we stayed in a nice resort run by a nice Itatian lady" we already know that..
Please tell Terri what resort you stayed in and why you thought it was so nice..
It will not be considered SPAM unless you plaster it all over the board like you have done before.. here is a link to our Terms of Service Spam and Self-promotion policies Please take the time to read it and if you have any questions please feel free to email us at moderators@bonairetalk.com

Terryhd -

I have not been able to find an online map that shows all the accommodations mentioned. Perhaps someone else can help.

But with regard to the distance to the airport, be not concerned. Unless you stay in Rincon, I don't think any accommodation on the island is more than 15 minutes from the airport.

Hi Terry,
it was our first time in Bonaire and we chose aquariuslodge, We found it through google.it on Internet. No-one suggested us, the island is fast unknow in our country, but we had a good surprise. It's located in belnam, a little far from sand dollar, (is it the big resort after the rond point, right? 10-15 min by car the distance between the two accomm., I think) but only 2-3 minutes by car from airport. If you need a stay only for 1-2 nights it can be a good solution after having been in the northern part, now on the southern you can go walking to bachelor beach (here we went only to swin, no fishes to see) or to that in front the airport (here we saw several and beautiful fishes specially in late afternoon), or snorkeling/diving to Alice and other spots. Prices are very cheap, coming from the Euro area, we pay everything less with the USD so low :-))))))) the accommodations are new, big space and clean room. For us very important with also 220v for recharge cell phones. We chose the room in B&B: a great breakfast. at home, usually we drink only espresso and some biscuits; here there was the true american breakfast with fast a lunch for us!! There is an apartment too if you want to cook for yourselves, :-((( bad idea during vacation! The owner has been very nice with us, giving ideas to where snorkeling, eating, shopping and helping for the car rental and also for the stay+flight for next week spent in Curacao.
For sure, it is not so de luxe as your resort (no TV or phone in the room) but we liked because it is a friendly guesthouse where you can feel yourself a friend and not a customer.I don't know if I can give the mailbox+URL of them (as said we're used to Italian forums having different rules), so to avoid any mistake or misunderstandings, I don't put it. Hoping that this msg can help Terry and doesn't go against the BT rules, bon tarde to all

To Freddie.
We're happy that you agree. If we were wrong is because our forums are different and our English is that we learned many, many years ago. It's
always difficult using a foreign (and bad learned) language. Believe us, we never wanted to do something wrong in your web. Sorry if we did.

To Terry.
We don't have the phone, but the URL is www.aquariuslodge.com ,there is also
an English page after the homepage with all the details.
One question: do you move only for one night? is your resort so expensive that you prefere do and undo suitcases in 24h? Good luck ;-)

Frencesca & Paola, thank you for the link and the nice report. Did you dive or snorkel? Bachelor's Beach is a good dive site, I thought folks had said snorkeling was good there as well...hmmm...anyway, thanks for the report!

Terry, the island is VERY small...you will be surprised when you get there...from Sand$, it is at most a 10 minute drive to the airport. The only place you would be farther away would be if you were over at Lac Bay and Sorobon, or stayed in Rincon! Don't fret over that one (being close to the airport:-))

Here are a couple of links. Keep in mind the think yellow line is the main road. the island is only about 27 miles long, and 9 miles wide (something around that anyway!) At the bottom of the first link click on "Kralendike" and you get a bigger picture of downtown.

To CYN
we only snorkelled. One of us wanted to do the padi course, but having only one week, or I did the Padi or I visited the island. I preferred the second. We felt in love with your small island and for sure we'are doing a big promo of it in office, by friends, in the Italian forums and chat etc. Only bad thing: air connections from Europe: KLM with high prices! being the only one fast direct flight (stop in Amsterdam), they can say the price they want. :-((( You can also fly through London/Jamaica or Madrid/Puertorico: you save about 270 Euros but you lose at least 15 hours!! Bon tarde to all. Oh sorry there is still morning: Bon dia to all.

Francesca & Paola, understand...timing, next time stay longer:-) I live in California, and it takes about 26 hours(from the time I leave the house to when I arrive on Bonaire)...but it's worth the long trip! It is expensive from here as well...between $900.00 to $1000.00 per person for the flight! Muy caro! (Don't know how to say very expensive in Italian!):-)

Frencesca,

To expensive move for one night? Well yes sort of .... We are staying in a large condo with a total of 9 people. The others leave the island the day before us. That would leave the 3 of us paying for the large condo which would come out to more than I am ever willing to pay. I have found from $50 to $150 for other places for that single night. I am not sure but believe if my calculations were right sanddollar staying in same room will come out to almost 3 times that amount for me. What I have done yet is seen if Sand$ would rather have some income instead of an empty room for the night. Of course that is me assuming that they are like most places and have empty nights.

So yes if I had a moneywise choice I would stay where I started at. But the other side is that I have read this message board a lot and it seems that the belief here is that once you go you will return. That being the case it might be a nice change to get a one night glimpse of other places for our return. I have now traveled to 51 countries and bonaire I understand is part of antilles which will make one more stamp in my 4th passport adn I won't be able to say 51 anymore.

I appreciate the boards input on my scouting for a "one-nighter".

thanks terry

Terry see if Sand$ doesn't have a smaller condo or just a hotel room for the one night that you could use instead of the larger one. That way you would not have to move to far. I am with everyone else no place is more than 10-15 min from the airport except for Rincon or Lac Bay area. Try WWW.infobonaire.com to check out the different accommodations by price breakdown.

Andy,

Yes I will have to do that. But I figured moving was moving. Maybe moving from one room to another is not as bad but I just had not got that far.

To CYN.
We did two weeks (on the four we have free from job): one spent in Bonaire
and the other in Curacao. We wanted to see more than one island during our travel.
very expensive is "molto caro" or "molto costoso". Your 1000USD are 820 Euros, a very cheap KLM price. In August prices reached 1300 Euros (1590 USD). With this price you can reach Polinesia from Italy with Air France!! And
yes, we too needed fast your time to do "door to door".

To TERRY
Hey sorry! I didn't want offend you saying that you have no money for another Sand Dollar night. I didn't understand your situation. I thought
that all remains and not that only 3 have to pay for the others leaving. :-((( In this case, you have all our support to change the accommodations
and save money!! :-))
You can also be lodged in the guesthouse I suggested you. the appartment will be OK for you three. We took the room for two and with breakfast we paid 56 USD per night+t.tax. You can try to surf the site and see their prices for the apartment and if she has availability for one night only. It's time (fast 2:00 am for me) to go sleep! bon noche

I don't know for sure but assuming with the 4 room condo that we would have to pay for it in its entirity or move. And for sure what several of us are paying is not something that I want to pay for with just 3.

Does sand$ have just condo's (first time but going with some very experienced people) or have smaller "guesthouses" and/or rooms? If so what are they like?
