We will be making our first trip to Bonaire and will be staying at the Divi Flamingo. Any suggestions regarding meal and/or dive plans? Any other information is also greatly appreciated!

Great Web Site - Not sure what I would of done without it

Some have said to save your breakfast voucher for lunch, but I personally LOVE the breakfast at Divi. They will make to order omlettes and pancakes, as well as bacon, sausage, etc. And great fresh fruit! I need this to start my day!

I would recommend doing the breakfast there, and signing up for at least one boat dive per day. Since you are new to Bonaire, there are a lot of sites you can't get to without a boat. A lot of people opt for shore diving only, which is fantasic, but it being your first time, you should mix it up a bit and then see what works best for you. The boat dives are easier, in my opinion. Don your gear and hop in. As opposed to putting it on on the tailgate of your truck, and walking verrrry carefully through the surf. After a while, you figure out the ins and outs of this also. Easy stuff!

Also, at Divi, if you get a choice, chose the deluxe oceanfront room. Great views and great sunsets.

Have lots of fun!

I also like the Divi's breakfast plan. I don't dive so I can't help you there. I wouldn't get a dinner plan because there are way too many nice restaurants in walking distance. The Chibi Chibi at the Divi is nice as well but I like the variety!

I agree .. breakfast plan is very good and gives a good start to the day. We frequently skip lunch or have a small snack. I would not do the dinner plan as there are many much better restaurants to try on island. Chibi Chibi is not bad, just nice to go to different places since you are so close to town. We do dinner at CHibi one or two nights just to relax close to 'home'.

If you rent a vehicle, I recommend you do the 2 tank boat dive in the AM, then the rest can be shore dives at the Divi and around the island. We don't rent a vehicle so the 3 boat dives and plenty of shore dives and snorkels at Divi, day and night, work great for us. ENJOY !!! I love the Divi :-)

Most people do not eat 3 meals a day but if you are going to dive multiple dives then you had better eat 3 or take the rist of low blood sugar underwater (run out of gas) or make your plan to eat a candy bar and drink alot of water before each dive. You don't want rubber legs at deapth.. Ron

Mark, I know you will love the small intimacy of the Divi Flamingo resort...don't forget to take some time out to just simply "float" in the waters at the Divi and snorkel the rocks at the tanning pier and both dive docks. Dive, too, as Calabas reef is wonderful. Divi is great for relaxing and enjoying the waters of the Sea and their pools.

Breakfast is nice at the Divi....tons of great stuff to order. Dinners in town sound terrific and easy to get to.

Be certain to remember to ask the front desk for the "gate" key when you register...this will enable you to unlock the main gate taking you into town and by the casino parking lot, too.

The pools were just redone and are wonderful for a dip after the dip at the ocean! We did that every day....hang out in the ocean and then relax even MORE in the pool towards sunset and the go inside and shower off....wet, wet, wet and simply wonderful!!

I hope you have a great time at the Divi. Will you be on the timeshare/studio unit side or the hotel side?? If on the hotel side, request one of the Deluxe rooms which sit right over the water...you don't even have to leave your room to see all of the fish in the waters...just look out over your balcony and the aquarium will entertain you.

Try a night snorkel at the Divi, too....so fascinating to see the different creatures in the rocks and waters after dark! Have fun! Carole

If you are in the hotel part, make an early request for a refrig. It's nice to have cold water, soda, beer etc. in the heat!

you should try for a dinner meal plan for at least 2 meals at chibi to save some money. i don't know how all the different plans work but you do save money. but save lots of days for exploring different restaurants.

carole thanks for the info on the keys it will save us tl;ots of time.
thank you

You can get a photo brochure of the resort from the Divi office. Contact Tiffany Soares at tiffany.soares@diviresorts.com. She is very helpful and will mail you a full color brochure.

traveling with a passport is much easier than bring your birth certificate. bring plenty of suntan lotion. we bring 45 and still tan. people are wonderful. let the dive shop know it is your first time in ocean diving and that you would appreciate some help. fresh water and ocean diving are different. you might want to rent a wet suit when there. bring your own fins and mask.(can rent fins too)but everything starts to add up so bring what you can. divi is very close to town and you can walk to the different restaurants. breakfast is vg at the divi and so are the dinners. you might want some kind of food plan but leave some days free to sample other restaurants.

Brian, A dive skin will pay for it's self if you buy them at home. The sun is very intence so treat your ears and wear a hat (if thin hair) the skin will protect you from the sun and little critter bites. We bring all of our dive gear but bring as much as you can to keep the cost down. The water is 83-85d at deapth so if you plan on diving repetitive dives your body core will chill and a skin won't be enough. We dive with 3m polartic full suits and it does the job. If you don't have a dive computer then rent one. Get as much bottom time as you can. We think the Divi is a great operation and have stayed there a few times. Just north of the Divi on the boulevard there is a tall windmill that is where we stay (Dive-Inn Studio-Apartments) no pool, no resturant, but has a kitchenette, small livingroom and bathroom. Has a Diveshop with a boat and the price is right. http://www.diveinnbonaire.com/ The morning dives at the Divi are 2 tank in the moring and single tank the afternoon. The shore diving is great but a rental vehical is needed. Just have fun and let the good times roll!!! Ron

Actually I am going with my local dive shop and am planning to bring all my own gear from 3mil full suit to computer to lights. I think I am going to be bringing more dive gear than clothes!!! Most of the time I will either wear a doo-rag or a hat so the sun is not a factor on my head but am planning to bring plenty of suntan lotion. I am getting very excited about the trip.
