I'm pleased that my wife got certified ODW today and of course the bug is starting to bite us now. CERTIFIED!

We'll be at the Black Durgon Inn and are wondering what is their dive shop operation. I searched the archives but didn't find my answer.

Does anyone know their separate prices for renting BCD, regulator, wetsuit, and tanks "ad hoc"? That is, we are not sure that we want to rent for 7 days with their $100 package of tank-and-belt, as we may be snorkeling many days. And even with the tank-and-belt, we'll need to rent other gear.

I can't find a price list on their website. Perhaps someone has either this specific information or other useful comments on what we should consider doing, and where we should consider doing it, while staying at BDI for a week.

Thanks.

I would suggest that you E-Mail Al directly at the Black Durgon and see if he has the rental equipment you need. (Bonaire@Blackdurgon.com) There is not a dive shop at the Inn.

However there is fantastic diving there! Just a giant stride off the dock, and head north or south for diving perfection!

Just one more month...... :-)

To clarify, they do teach diving at the Durgon; so there is probably some gear available, but do email and ask.

The equipment cage is very convenient to the water, less of a walk than most shore dives using a car or truck.

Al doesn't usually hire gear, although he does teach. He should be able to sort something out if you mail him

Don't worry about a thing! Al will set you up with what you need when and if you need it at a very competitive price. In our six trips to Bonaire we have always stayed at the Black Durgon and will always return there. Its not the Plaza (as swank as it may be) but its inestimatably cool.
Trip report when you get home please.
Oh Yeah, don't forget dog treats, carrots for the horses and lettuce for the iguanas.
Have a great time!!

I stayed at the Black Durgon with my wife on our last trip. Al said his daughter was taking over the operation in the near future and that she would be making some changes. As has been suggested--email Al and he'll give you all the information you need. If you don't rent there you might consider the Yellow Submarine. I've used them before and their prices are good for rental equipment. Buddy Dive also has good equipment--but more expensive than Yellow Submarine. Have fun at the Black Durgon.
