Hello everyone,

I have been reading this board for a while in my preparation to my first Bonaire visit. I am considering Eden Beach in one of the studios or Divi Flamingo. It is me and a buddy of mine traveling so we need two beds and I wanted some sort of balcony or patio. Both Eden Beach and Divi sound great. Does anyone know if Eden's rooms have A/C? I usually don't like A/C but I am going the 1st week of August and I am thinking it will be quite hot. How far is Eden from town? Any recommendations for restaurants would be greatly appreciated also. I have heard Casa Blanca, Bongo's for lunch, etc. There are not too many menus on infobobaire.com. Any more shrimp recommendations and that is only if I ask where they are from first ;)...what about crab? Thanks all.

Eden Beach is awesome! I believe all the rooms have A/C. Eden has a nice area to "hang out" in the evening with Bongo's. The guys at Wannadive are super too!

Scott, welcome to BT! Ask and ye shall receive answers.....The Divi studios don't overlook the water but they are feet away. Divi has a/c in their studios. Divi's deluxe rooms have two beds and are literally hanging over the water and the aquarium (it seems like one, at least) right below the room. No kitchen in the Deluxe rooms, however.

I am not too familiar with Eden's layout but I think they have ocean View rooms.

Here is the latest version of Bonaire's official Dining Guide put together by our wonderful Michael Gaynor and friends. This should help you out with lots of the restaurants and eateries on Bonaire. There are more which are not in here so you will be even more pleasantly surprised with the variety and differences in prices, menus and locations.

You are correct...it will (should be) be very hot in August so it is best to be "prepared" and have the a/c in case you need it rather than not have it and sweat! LOL.

Divi is a little closer to the main part of the town.....walking distance to lots of the eateries and downtown places. Eden Beach is a little further north but not all that far, either. Boniare is a small island to begin with.

You and your friend should have a great time! Here is a link to the new dining guide, too. Ayo. Carole

Scott, both Edens and Divi are good choices But the Divi is only 5 blocks from town and Edens is a few miles. If you are going to rent a vehicle it won't make a difference. Bongo's is a nice open air bar eatery and have spent many hours there and I don't drink! The house reef at Edens (Front Pourch) was damaged (big Time) during Lenny in 99 but it is trying to come back from it's ordeal plus heavey curent can be found there during certain times of the day. The house reef at Divi has little damage and the reef is healthy with little curent because it is protected by the south working dock just north of Dive-Inn and is a good shore dive or snorkle. Both places have nice rooms and A/C and good dive operations. The food is great at both but if you want to be close to town the Divi if you want to be close to the web cams then Edens.. Six of one and half dozen of another.. ENJOY.. We will be there in 7 and a wake up!! Ron

You can't go wrong with either of these, they both have their selling points. Have fun !!

Hey thanks everyone...very helpful. My first instinct is to go for Eden Beach. Bongo's and the beach seem like a nice place to relax. I would like a little bit of activity and the combination of the "beach" and Bongo's seems perfect. I don't plan on spending much time in the room but I do want something comfortable. Looks like Eden Beach it is!

If you are into walking it is doable. It is probably 2 miles. Just be sure and take good walking shoes.

Do Divi. It's really close to town and has a great dive staff. It is also one of the first hotels on Bonaire, so go with the classic!

Scott,

Eden Beach is a good choice. It takes me about 20-25 minutes to get to town. Go via the sea front its a much nicer walk although it could take you longer as you may want to stop here and there.

Dave

Also, doesn't Eden Beach offers topless bathing? You won't find that at the Divi.

Mare - well said!! HEE HEE!!!

Scott - either place is great - but do not think that the beach is big at either place. Eden's beach looks much larger from the cams than it really is.

Hi, guys! Is the beach at Divi still loaded with broken coral and rock? I had heard it ended up that way after Ivan last fall.

Has it been cleaned up or "sanded" back to the way it was since then?? Thanks! Carole

Scott,
Yes, it is a unique perspective among the resorts at Bonaire. Be sure and enter that bit of info into your decision lest you find yourself face face with--well, you get the idea.
Bill
