Stayed at Plaza from 4-16 to 4-25 third time there. We have been traveling to Bonaire since 1999 and must say that I am a lurker coming out. I can say alot of good things at the Plaza, the security around at all times. There are 3 new cameras that we now see. Maybe they were there before, but now we notice them. There is also a pin that is on the patio doors for security . We had a grand suite about 13 steps from the ocean with a fantastic view . New towels, the grounds were really cleaned up and bushes trimmed. We were there in July and really notice a difference. The hotel staff was kind as always and the reef right outside the hotel was amazing !

Nice to hear this. We are coming at the Plaza in August.
Was there something to do, besides the sea and swimming pool , for children???

Yes there is the aqua kids center. Also we had to be careful 2 people were stung by sea wasps in the water and were taken to the hospital. The staff at the Plaza told the entire beach to be careful and get out of the water for a bit. Both people ended up ok , had some breathing problems. Sea wasps now are around in the ocean

I never heard of the sea wasp and did a google search. Scary, they can be deadly.
I'm glad the two people ended up OK

my husband and I are going to the plaze resort August 14 to 21. It sounds like we'll be doing some awesome diving! Never heard of sea wasps before...that kind of freaks me out. Our lds set this trip up with a rental car included

Just returned from the Plaza Resort.
GREAT TRIP
Had a Grand suite, balcony doors had a pin to double lock, I did bring an adjustable bar for the doors, but I must say there were no signs of any prior attempts on the main door or sliders. Did not hear of anyone at the Plaza having a problem while we were there. The facility and the people there are the BEST!

A trip report to follow.

GREAT JOB - Plaza Resort and Toucan Diving

i am so happy to hear positive things about the Plaza. I can only hope that they are doing the right thing and beefing up the security. We really love Bonaire, and the diving. But we have been a bit leary about going back to the plaza. If we keep hearing good things, we may just change our minds.

Marieke,

For children's activities on Bonaire, please look into Marine biology programs for kids (& adults) given by Caren Eckrich, Jerry Ligon or Dee Scarr (I hope I've got their names correct). See links below. There is also horseback riding available (search the archives for more info). If you need to bring more activities, I could suggest that this will be a fantastic place to bring a kite.

I mentioned horseback riding for kids, so how on EARTH could I forget the donkey sanctuary? (Bring carrots and/or apples.)

Depending on how old they are, a box camera might be good. As a hyper kid, my dad used to have me do a photographic scavenger hunt. I'd make an list from A to Z, and on long trips, my challenge was to take a picture of one thing that began with each letter and to fill those items into my list. (The list was good for an ice cream.) Sure, I eventually lost interest in filling out those lists, but I kept on learning about new places and taking pictures.

Just some ideas.
Michelle
