There was a Condo under construction on our last trip to Bonaire. (Sad that it was so long ago. Planning another trip there.) The units were White (maybe Stucco) with a Mediterranean look, archways, each unit had a balcony. But the thing I remember most was that in the middle of the courtyard was a saltwater pool with a "swim-out" directly to the ocean.
I also remember it being just south of the Airport, as in going toward the salt mounds…rather than toward town. Was it ever completed? If so, what's the name?

Are you sure you were in Bonaire. A pool with a swimout directly to the ocean?? Not on Bonaire that I have ever seen (but it would be a great idea and the houses they are building down south will someday have a swimout right from their kitchen. Wonder if they can get flood insurance when they build so close to the sea in such low lying land).
You might be thinking about the BelMar but it is up on a bluff of sorts above the water (has a pool but not connected to the ocean).

The courtyard was definitely on/near sea level...definitely not on a bluff. The building could have been L shaped...but I know the building we looked at was perpendicular to the ocean and the end unit was not very far off the water. I know it were at least 2 stories, maybe 3. I seem to recall they were to be sold as Condo's vs. renting. And yes, they had a similar look like BelMar.

Sounds like you're talking about the "Esmeralda Project", located at the southern end of Belnem/Punt Vierkant. That's been abandoned for some time. Last year a developer bought the land and the rights to finish the property, but hasn't done much to it other than build some houses on the beach nearby, with multi-purpose car ports/swimming pools underneath (depending on the surge and wave height) :-)

So the car port can double as a swimming pool? What a novel idea! Who is the architect? Has he done other work on Bonaire?

Hi Alan,
All I can say is: ARMAGEDDON!

Not so novel, J. - it's a natural side effect when you build an oceanfront home with the car port at or below sea level :-)
