I am going end of May to Bonaire for the first time and with a group of 8 to 10 diver friends (and some non divers too). I have checked most oceanfront resorts and liked a lot the Eden Beach for its very nice beach and location. However, it seems that for the price of having a beach, there is no reef in front and was wondering if there is anything interesting to dive around it... I understand that other resorts with reefs are close, like Buddy and Sand Dollar, but I don't know how close.. Any info. would be welcome! I chose the Eden mainly for the beach, but I wonder if it is a good choice for divers.

thank you,
Peter

Peter, I believe you will be happy with your choice. I have enjoyed diving the small wrecks and the reef in front of Eden many times.

The other sites you mention are a one to two minute drive away.

Enjoy.

Peter,

You will enjoy it. There are better reefs around but you would be hard pushed to find more a greater variety of species at one spot, including sea horse and frog fish. If you enter the water at the northern end of the beach you are easily in reach of Front Porch. We have entered at Sand $ or Buddies and drifted back to Eden. This also makes a great night dive.

To get the most out of diving Bonaire you need a truck to get around to the other sites so where you are accommodated is academic as far as diving is concerned. However if you want a nice friendly resort with a very good dive shop and a beach, beach bar and small pool then Eden Beach is for you.

Have a good trip

Dave

Bingo on what David said. Great resort to be at. Dive the rubble field, look at the zillion fish, the little wreak, wave at the webcam and then head north and south to dive all the shore dives. All of my favorite dives don't have resorts in front of them...just little yellow rocks.
But it is nice to have a Bongos and a beach when just hanging.

Peter, I'll agree with all that has been said and add my 2 cents. I do not think you could find a better setup than Eden Beach. It's well maintained, has a GREAT dive operation on site, and Bongos is a wonderfully unique place for resting and relaxing and meeting people. The whole package is what one wishes for in a vacation but doesn't always get. When you go there and meet the people that will take care of your needs and you get to know them, you will know I was telling the truth. I'll get my wish in 2 days for the 3rd time:-)
