For just snorkeling from would I be better at The Sandollar or Divi.

Hi, James! The Divi has a nice little beach to walk right into the water for excellent snorkeling...I am not familiar with the setup at the Sand Dollar, tho.

Joe and I spend hours on end snorkeling right at the Divi and their reef and the waters on both sides of the place. Excellent snorkeling, indeed! Carole

James,

I have to agree with Carole! I have done a lot of snorkeling off the beach and pier of Divi and it is excellent. I cannot speak of Sand Dollar as I have never snorkeled there, but snorkeling ANYWHERE on Bonaire is fantastic!

Sand Dollar also has a walk in small beach area. And the advantage that the reef has the most different species of fish in the Caribbean as counted by R.E.E.F. :–)

Sand$ used to have good snorkeling pre-Lenny. Not immediately afterward but haven't snorkeled there in a few years.

Glen, I've always been suspicious of that REEF statistic. Bari, like the rest of the Bonaire reef system, has great biodiversity, but the species count on this reef, as opposed to elsewhere on the island, has more to do with the huge number of REEF fish counting dives done there during that organization's stays at Sand$, and with the presence of a naturalist at the resort who is extremely knowledgeable, does his own REEF dives, and educates his students who do the same.

This in itself is a good reason to consider Sand$ and take a course with Jerry, but I don't think Bari is really any better or worse than other sections of the reef for # of species.

- David

Having dived both Divi and Sand$ their both great, from a snorkeling perspective, (snorkeled the day we arrived and our last day when we stayed at Sand$), it is most excellent. You can go North, all the way up to Buddy's and the life along the wall is amazing. Maybe someone who has snorkeled Divi will chime in.

I also agree with Glen, I always see more at Bari (when diving) than at any other dive site...

I agree with Carole. The Divi is fantastic for snorkelng! I love the cement pier as there are a ton of creatures living in it. There is also a little boat sunk right there just to the right of the pier a little further out.
I have snorkeled in front of Sand Dollar and didn't think it was as good.

Carole...duh...slap me upside the head...I think my increased workload at work, has fried some of the synapses in my brain, and I am having major brain f@#ts lately! (my example yesterday would be how I somehow typed a bad word in and had no idea what I typed) "Maybe someone who has snorkeled Divi will chime in" OK, I just kicked myself in the arse...I be sorry gal:-)

Darlene, 20 more days! Are you getting excited?

Easy Cynde...we don't want to slap you upside the head and cause some sort of injury that might keep you from flying or diving! LOL. I do love the fact that your brain is expelling some of that nasty buildup of gas, however! LOL.

Hang in there, Cyn...Bonaire is coming soon...you can make it! I hope you are not floating away in your area of So. Cal, however.

A friend of mine went to Phoenix for the week and she was chuckling at the locals who were complaining of the rainy days...She told me it was sprinkling (by NJ standards, at least) and they called it "rain"! I guess the weather has been icky all over the place of late. Strange winter indeed. We lucked out with rains and not too much snow but there is more snow on the way tomorrow....hope it is the last of it for the season. I'm really ready for Spring to arrive....even more ready for Bonaire in May! Ayo. Carole

Sand Dollar has the highest count on Bonaire because it is the most heavily surveyed site on island. There is no doubt about diversity here and you will find that many area's of the island have different topography and thus different species of 's just a matter of hanging around to see what shows up.
