I hope to visit Bonaire this Jan. I am not a diver, but love to snorkle. Is there much else to do besides water related things? i.e. nightlife, clubs, casino's, etc.? Please help me out here! Thanks!

IMHO, the tourist industry is pretty water-centric on Bonaire. Besides diving/snorkel, there is sea kayaking (i.e., through the mangroves), world class wind surfing and even fishing. On land, there is hiking (too hot for me), biking (too hot for me) and bird watching. And the always popular lounging by the pool or reading a book (preferably with cold beer nearby).

If you are looking for lots of clubs, nightlife and casinos, perhaps Bonaire is not your best choice. There is currently one casino on the island (smaller, at the Divi). Town can get hoping --- especially on a weekend. Check out places like the City Cafe and Karels Beach Bar. But dance clubs and casinos are much more common in Aruba.

As the restaurants serve dinner late, it is very possible to be out all day, take a small siesta at you hotel and then grab a late dinner. That may satisfy your desire to be out on the town in the early evening. Almost every night there is a slide show at one resort or another. And there is a nice little theater as well...

A good site with lots of info is http://www.infobonaire.com/index.html

A little known statistic: Less than 50% of the arrivals on Bonaire are divers. One of my favorite things to do used to be was NOTHING!

Drive around the East coast near Omina and see the wild East Coast

Walk around Rincon (take a walking tour or early AM hike with Maria from Soldachi Tours)

Sift thru Flotsam and Jetsan at Baby Beach (sp?)

Walk Promenade at night

Xmas drives around the island looking at Xmas lights (soon)

Tour Rooi Lamunchi with Ellen Ferrera

Windsurf

:-)

Bonaire is the perfect place to just vegg out and relax, in addition to the listed items above. If you like to or need to chill out and relax, Bonaire is your place! Carole

actually, Bonaire is great for astronomy. My dad came to bonaire years ago with his atronomy club, as the skies at night are really dark and you can see alot. So if you are into astronomy, it's a great place too. plus, when you are out looking at stars in the wee hours of the morning, the temperature is very comfy!

I just love to watch for shooting stars at Pink Beach late at night, just watchout for the donkeys on the road!
Seru Largu is a great place to watch the stars too. Look in the Bonaire Reporter for the sky view report.
Go for a drive to look for the flamingo's and other birds and wildlife.
Look for the local "happy hours" at the bars on the water and watch the sunset. Carl's, in town is a good one.
Slow down and have a great time!
