My wife and I are looking for an exteremely quiet, somewhat economical, out of the way place to stay on Bonaire for a week.

We don't want a hotel or condo. We'd rather be away from town.

Please post here or contact me at brad@cecil.net

Thanks!!

Brad, I think we have a suggestion which may suit your needs. I haven't gotten around to posting our trip report yet...just got home today!...but I'd like to give you a contact which worked VERY well for us. It's a 3-bedroom apartment at Lighthouse Beach Resort. Very private, very convenient, south of the airport. A dive site right at your door. The place was very quiet and had good neighbours, many of whom owned their own apartment in the complex. One of the benefits of renting this apartment (they also have 2-bedroom suites as well) is that Joe Bird's family has lived/owned/worked on the island for 22 years. They know EVERYBODY. And can put you in contact with anyone whose help you may need. Besides their personally-owned apartments, they also look after rentals for other owners. Joe and his father, Ray, are on the island now in fact. Brad, email me directly if you like, or post here. I'd be delighted to give you any benefit of our experiences. Or contact Joe at Bonbini2@aol.com.

I second the Lighthouse Beach Townhomes. I have rented from the Birds 2 years now and they are wonderful hosts. We stayed at Lighthouse in Aug '00 in the 3 bedroom (our 1st time in Bonaire) and fell in love with the island. Last summer we were at the house right on the water next to Belmar. Also nice. Joe will help with anything and everything you might need/want.

I have to put in my plug for Bonaire Town Homes (which is where I am RIGHT NOW!!!) We have the two bedroom unit, which would hold up to four easily. It's very quiet, very economical and a great family who operate just two units (the two bedroom and a one bedroom unit also). Check out their website at: www.bonairetownhomes.com.

This is our fifth stay here and it's perfect for us. If I could change anything, I'd put it on the water, but then just about anything I've seen on the water is not nearly as economical. We're here for a month, so cost is very important. BUT, comfort and nice people is also crucial. We find both here.

Thanks, Josie and Paul --

I am looking at a couple of places on the water right now, and I'm leaning towards staying at Ultimo Cas in Hato.

Brad,

Sheri (the owner of Ultimo Cas, which is about 9 houses north of us here) just had her Web site finished in case you've not seen it: http://www.BonaireLodging.com/ultimocas

Brad,
My wife and I stayed at UltimoCas for two weeks last November. We really enjoyed the house and the owner a lot. We BBQ outside a few evenings and watched the sunset from the terrace. Any more info, you can email me. Oh yeah, we snorkeled up to the webcams at Jake and Linda's house a couple of times, also up to Andrea 1 and 2 from the house.

Thanks for recommending the Ultimo Cas, Dean --

It sounded like a good place to stay, but you can never tell from the web site!!!!

I'm psyched to stay there, and will look forward to the snorkel spots you mentioned.
