Everyone on this board is so helpful, I thought I'd throw a question out there. I am leaving on Saturday for Bonaire with a dive group (this is my first time there!). We are staying at the Plaza Resorts. Any info on this place? Are the restaurants any good, or should we go into town for meals? Although we are going in a group, my boyfriend and I would like to eat out alone at times... any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any info.

Jen

I have never stayed there so I can't comment however we got MANY wonderful trip reports about the plaza. Same person just several reports. Here is the link to #1. http://www.oldbonairetalk.com/newsgroup/messages/1022/184229.html?1097075526

And as for eating out alone - from the plaza there are quite a few places down the road along the coast - going toward town and of course while you are in town.

I'm jealous - have a great trip Jen.

Hi Jen,
We were part of a group that stayed at Plaza in July. It was our first trip and it was great.
The breakfast buffet was included in our package and we enjoyed it each morning. We ate at both restaurants during week as well as at some in town. The sunset view from Tipsy Seagull was fabulous. You can't go wrong with either one.

The dive shop staff was very helpful and the house reef is beautiful and has active marine life.
One note about washcloths. They only have the disposable ones. We purchased a few inexpensive ones to carry on trip.

Our group is planning a return to Plaza in 2005.

Have a great trip, We did!

Thanks so much for the info (especially about the washcloths). I appreciate your comments and I'm sure we'll have a great time. Has anyone had any trouble with theft at the Plaza? I've been reading some threads about other hotels having break-in problems, so I was curious about it.

Jen, Croccatinos or Cappricios is a nice place to go for romantic Italian dinner:-)

There has been only one first hand report of a robbery at a "resort" posted on the board (if I'm wrong, please point us in the right direction).

Remember to keep your passports, money, credit cards, jewelery, etc. in the safe unless you have it on your body. Don't leave ANYTHING in your vehicle and roll the windows down. Also, don't leave anything on your patio when you're not there that you would be bummed if it were stolen. Remember, you are in another country, and take precautions as you would when traveling to another country.

Have a great time.

Walk across the street to the Old Inn and try the riijstafel. Best done with a large group (of hungry people) because of the number of dishes served. If you can't convince others to try it, several restaurants serve a "Nasi Goreng special" (but nothing compares to riijstafel).

Although Bonaire has lots of very good restaurants (I'm not a fan of the ones at Plaza), the Old Inn is unique. Cappricio's one of our favorites in Bonaire, but living in an Italian town in NJ, we can get better Italian here. Garden Cafe has very good Lebanese cuisine, but growing up in Detroit, there were better Middle Eastern restaurants there. There are few places I know of that serve riijstafel and Old Inn does a very good job of it. Wear loose fitting clothes! We stay at Carib Inn with kitchens for the leftovers. Does the Plaza have refrigerators in the rooms?
