Maybe anyone with info on the status of individual resorts and their reefs as they become known could post them under this thread.

Does anyone know how BelMar Apartments and staff are doing? Any damage sustained?
|
By Richard Burdette (BonaireTalker - Post #49) on Thursday, September 9, 2004 - 10:27 pm: |
Due to arrive at BelMar the 17th. I E-mailed them this morning, Thursday the 9th, and their response was vague when it came to any damage. I then called my travel agent (who wasn't available so I spoke to who ever answered the phone) and was told all was OK, but I don't know what "OK" means and they didn't seem to want to elaborate. I'm hoping, like you, that someone out there can give us a clearer picture of the effects of the storm at BelMar....... Richard

Richard, please keep us posted as to the situation at Belmar. We aren't scheduled until March, but I hear they evacuated the complex for the storm...good luck!

Just so everyone knows, TCB (Tourist Information Bonaire) created a website with an update. I'm sure it will become more comprehensive as more reports come in. You can access it at: http://www.infobonaire.com/tcb/Ivan.

Its not your policy that I was questioning, it was your pulic chastisement of one of our new business communitity members. I think the adage "we don't air our dirty laundry in public" may have a familiar ring to it. With that in mind, I will refrain from any more public comments. If need be,stop by and we can duke it out over some Lovers Ice Cream.

Not to be picky, but Jake was right about the thinly veiled plug for Liz's business which was rightly commented on.

I've been away all weekend and just got a chance to read the thread. First of all, let me apologize for any misunderstanding. I only wrote what I saw on my computer screen when I looked on the main page of the Reporter. I guess I should have included quote marks. Secondly, as far as the plug goes, it was NOT meant to be a plug. I was just replying to what the post was requesting.

Just another quick note, as I am a bit disheveled from all this. To Divi, once again, NO harm was intended, As with Buddy Dive I only posted what was reported and we also recommend you guys for your great rooms and updated accommodations.

By Brigitte Kley (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #153) on Sunday, September 12, 2004 - 4:33 pm: |
I somehow think that I have to defend Jake about the "self promotion" part. I know for a fact that in the past Jake has been under "fire" from local inn owners who feld that he allowed Liz Ginocchio to post text, that they have seen as "self promotion" .... he always defended Liz, and there were local buisiness people who found that rather unfair.
|
By Liz Ginocchio (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #325) on Sunday, September 12, 2004 - 4:50 pm: |
Wow, this is news to me! Jake, I greatly appreciate any support, but it is unnecessary. I did a search and didn't see anything that I would consider "self promotion". What is done is no different that what other local inn owners do when posting on the site. We don't feel that we need to be in "competition" with other local inn owners, and in fact have agreements with others to work together to provide overflow accommodations with each other in order to promote the "small innkeeper" on Bonaire. Ok, enough about that. I don't want to put my other foot in my mouth! LOL, Liz

Gregg, will you be checking out the tanning pier to be certain it is "safe" for the flight attendants from KLM???!! LOL. If you will be at the Divi can you give us some pics or lots of details? Linnea gave us some good details earlier, too. Hopefully the water damage was minor and nothing too bad.

Whoa.....Oksy to the ice cream fisticuffs. I will supply the paper towels as well. Jake, you can bring the kids. I think it is about time we had a BT Icecream social. Someone can organize the time and keep a list of who can attend. The way it works here is that the basic icecream is supplied. The particpants bring assingned toppings, ie M & M's, Oreo cookies, walnuts, varioius sauces, etc. Gregg...I don't have any of your left over rum..you drank it all last time.
