This is my first post to this great site and I have a couple of quick questions. My wife and I are going to Bonaire for the first time in September (can I wait that long without going crazy?) and we are staying at Belmar Apts. Have any of you stayed there recently? Go ahead and give us the Pros and the Cons (if there are any). Also, we understand there is a restaurant across the street where we could grab a quick breakfast. Anybody know about it? Anything you can tell us about Belmar would be great.

Thanks,
Richard

All I can say is you could not of picked a better place to stay we are going for the 3rd time . The staff is wonderful the condos are in wonderful . The house reef is great to go and swim. Thier are no resturants near by but what we do for breakfast is go to the warehouse and buy breakfast foods and lunch as their are fully equipped kitchens . The view cannot be beat from the belmar. Negatives you hate to go home when its time to go. Also the dive shop is run by erica and monique which are the greatest it is toucan dive shop .

Richard, welcome to the board.
We have toured most of the accommodations on Bonaire during our last three trips. If we didn't stay in a cottage at Capt. Don's (we LOVE it), we would definitely stay at Belmar. Very nice "non-resort type" facility. We travel with teenagers that need a little socialization with guests in their age group!...not easy to find unless at a "resort". Prepare to enjoy the Belmar!

Hi Richard,
We will be returning for our 8th trip to Bonaire (our 5th time at Belmar). You will love the accommodations and staff! I have nothing but great things to say about Belmar! Across the street and a bit further south is The Great Escape Hotel, they have a restaurant that we have gone to for breakfast. If you need any further information please don't hesitate to email us at therog@socal.rr.com.

Richard,
We just returned from our third visit to Bonaire (26.03.2004 - 10.04.2004) and our third stay at the Belmar. I must echo the comments of the others who have responded. I don't know that there is a better place to stay. The grounds are well maintained and very clean. The staff does an outstanding job of taking care of your needs without getting in your way. The units we have stayed in have been well equipped and well taken care of. The dive shop (Toucan Diveing-Belmar) is expertly staffed by Erika and Monique...they are always willing to assist. They have a very nice dock out front with easy access to the water and the house reef for diving, snorkeling and swimming. As Christine said above...the only negative is having to go home when its time. Hope you enjoy your stay at the Belmar as much as we have ours. We plan to go back next year.

Mike

Hi Richard,
We will be returning for one of our BI yearly trips to Bonaire May 29-Jun. You will love Belmar. Last June my baby sister and her daughter went with us and they love Belmar. My sister is not a water lover and yet she became a snorkeler while staying at Belmar. She and my niece are going back with us for this trip. The Great Escape does have a restaurant but I cannot comment good or bad because most of our meals are prepared at Belmar. The only negative I know of is from what my sister says is the "oven size is too small". The unit we stay in has a small counter top (toaster?) oven.

Hey everybody- Thanks for all the great responses about Belmar. My wife and I learned about Belmar at the OUR WORLD UNDERWATER scuba show in Chicago in April. All the promotional stuff looked great, but there's nothing like hearing about a place from the people that go there. From the way you all make it sound, maybe we'll find our new "paradise". Thanks again....

Richard

We are going to BelMar in June for the second time and this will be our third visit. You could not stay at a better place than BelMar. Great Escape across the street and just south of BelMar has a restaurant. We usually eat in at breakfast and lunch and eat at different places for dinner as we like the adventure. BelMar is a small resort but has great staff, they will do what it takes to make your vacation great. Toucan dive has a shop on site and the staff there are very helpful with where to dive, what the sites look like and for the few sites that you need permission to dive they will get it for you. Have a great time I know we will
