We're looking at going to Bonaire for our first trip in June. We'd like to take advantage of the shore diving and looking for suggestions on places to stay. 2 divers, no children.
Thanks!

Any place on the water, i.e. Plaza, Carib Inn, Divi, Dive Inn, Cap't Don's, Sand Dollar, Black Durgeon and so on and so forth. Your budget and whether you want fancy (more or less) or funky (not dirty, just plain). Eat out only or be able to cook when you want to. Read the trip reports and the diving threads for discriptions of each place. http://infobonaire.com is a good place to search also.

Welcome to the board Kim.
You don't have to be located on the water to take advantage of the shore diving, in fact most of the shore diving sites are not located at a resort at all. Many are located in remote areas with no buildings in site. I will admit it's nice to be on the water but it's not necessary. If you are on a budget, the off water resorts can be a lot cheaper. We just got back from a trip where we stayed at an inland hotel and saved around $500pp. You can still dive most of the sites that are located on a resort but they do ask you to check in at the office. Capt Don's is one exception as they charge to use their docks.

Just be on the island, and make sure you've got a car .. then nearly any site is at hands ..
House-reef can be nice, but 14days of diving the same reef 5 times a day gets boring .. even on Bon :-)

I agree with the rest, no place is far since Bonaire is a small island, just a matter of budget and preferrence. You'll soon see that.

My husband and I have been going to Bonaire for years now and have always stayed at the Carib Inn. It's on the water, clean, has cooking facilities and the owner and employees are great people. They have a gazebo right on the water to enjoy your lunch or relax and read a book (great sunsets). Nothing fancy, but the prices are very reasonable. We stayed at Lagoen Hill this year because there was no room at the Inn (not a pun). Not on the water, but in a lovely location (on a hill with a great breeze). The price included a rental car. There are cooking facilities and I found it very clean. We would definitely stay there again if the occasion arose. Carol

Let me add to John & Carol's recommendation of the Carib Inn. If you're into plain but extremely clean and well-run by friendly people (not to mention the best dive shop and repair place on the island, it's said) and you want to be able to just plop into the water whenever you feel like it by walking about 100 feet (most of that is the dock)--that's the place. My wife and I have used a truck to go all over the place, but the Inn is a great place for initial check-out, night, and impromptu dives. One caveat--unless he's changed, it's almost impossible to get more than two tanks a day from Bruce unless you're doing a night dive. He doesn't much fancy his patrons getting bent.

Any place on Bonaire, all of the accommadations that we have seen are great. Depends on if you want on the water or not. We will be returning to Bonaire in June 2004 for our third trip. Will be staying at BelMar Apartments in the Belnam area . Toucan diving has a shop on site with 24 hour tank access. They only have 22 apartments and are right on the water. They are medium range in price. No resturant on site but you are never far from a resturant on Bonaire. Enjoy
