My girlfriend and I are going to Bonaire on our way to Peru, I've been reading a lot about Bonaire on this site and a few others and I'm really looking forward to it now!

The problem is we don't have much time there. We have got 4 nights at the end of October, so we don't want a place too far away from the airport - providing we are within 30-45 minutes drive it would be okay. Probably a medium-rate apartment or hotel room would do. no doubt we will be exploring the island and eating out so there is no need for apartments with cooking facilities.

Diving isn't too important either, as neither of us dive, the closest being some snorkelling.

Oh, and seeing as we are coming all the way over from Scotland, a few good bars close by would be nice too :-)

Any suggestions would be really appreciated, we don't want to waste any time once we get there sorting out accommodation!

thanks for your help.

Hi, Darren! Bonaire is a fairly small place...at least what is developed on the island, so you can stay just about anywhere on the island and still be within your 45 minute drive to the airport! LOL. There are tons of places to stay. There are even bars (of sorts) in town where you can relax (outside along the waterfront, too) and have a pint or two. Snorkeling is fabulous on Bonaire. You will be very pleased with the "show" you will see under the water's surface. As far as room rates, you can probably get a better idea of the costs of some of the places via the InfoBonaire website....I "think" that is it...help me out, folks on this one, OK? Which site has the hotels and prices listed?

You might regret having to move on to Peru once you get a little "taste" of Bonaire, I fear!

Be certain to bring lots of powerful sunblock with you as the sun is intense on Bonaire....being as you are coming in from Scotland, and all. Hats for your heads might be a good idea, too so you don't burn your scalps. Just a thought.

Keep us posted as to how you make out with finding a room and what your plans are.

Is Peru a pleasure trip, too? Ayo. Carole

Thanks Carole,
I've been all over infobonaire.com. it just gets confusing after a while... if anybody has got personal opinions on some of the accomodation it would be useful.

LOL - I hadn't thought of how small the island is, I guess a 45 minute drive would take me half way to Caracas :-)

Yep, Peru is an extended holiday, Bonaire was an added bonus but I'm really starting to look forward to Bonaire now

Hotel Rochaline is on the water in downtown Kralendijk, right near Karel's Bar and many restaurants are within 2-3 minutes walking distance. You would have to walk 5 minutes to get to Calabas Reef which is south of town in front of the Dive Inn and Divi Flamingo. Divi Flamingo is also the pick up point for the Woodwind snorkel cruises.

Darren,

Carole didn't say it explicitly but even the most distant accommodatons are no more than a 20 minute drive from the airport and most are within 15. There just is no inhabited part of Bonaire 45 mintues from the airport.

Almost every accommodation on Bonaire has been commented on here in BT. Check InfoBonaire for names and then do keyword searches on likely looking ones, or any other. You will learn all you want to know.
