Looking to book Divi Flamingo thru Expedia. 9 nights with air from San Fran for $990/ person! This seems like a really good deal. I have seen that the breakfast option is popular. Can this be purchased upon arrival? It is not listed as a add-on in Expedia.

Also, is it true Bonaire is OUT of the hurricane belt?

ciao --

Welcome to BT.

The Expedia sounds like a good deal, check with Divi at 800-367-3484 or www.divirestors.com for more info.

Bonaire is outside the hurricane belt. The only problem you are likely to have is if you go through an airport that is being affected by a nearby hurricane.

I would tell you to wait on the breakfast option. Typically it's the same price if you purchase them every day, I mean what's the point if you don't save money.

That was my plan at the Plaza recently. The first morning I went down for breakfast. They have a very nice buffet breakfast with lots and lots of food. I pretty quickly decided that it was not what I wanted, it was to much food and I did not want to spend the time. We went to the market that day and got some pastries and I sat on the deck with my bird buddies watching the ocean eating my breakfast and having coffee. Much much better and much cheaper especially when I found out at the end of the week that, that one breakfast cost me $28.

YMMV.

No you do not need a passport but do need a birth certificate with a raised seal. The recommendation is to get one anyway as a passport is much less hassle, good for 10 years and works as a valid ID for airports. If you have the time get one, they are great to have.

If you are a diver (or not) you will love Bonaire.

I noticed that coming through Miami immigrations and customs last week went much quicker for us folks with passports. I tried to not pick lines if I saw people with birth certificates and drivers licences. They seemed to scrutinize them more.

Gail,

I agree with you....I curse when I get in a line and someone starts pulling out birth certificates drivers lisense etc...as you say, they scrutinize them closely and take twice the amount of time to check in.... this seems to work both directions

it is easy to get a passport.... get one!

I just got back from staying at the Divi Flamingo 7/19-7/26 and I have to say apart form our rooms, everything was good. The resturants are overpriced (like most resorts) A hot breakfast is $10.95 and a cold is $7.95. We did not go for this so we walked into town. I can say that if you go out the side gate town is a 6 minute walk, stay on the water side and when you come to a small pavilion type area (vegetable stand) City Cafe http://www.bonairedining.com/guide/restaurants/citycafe.html is on your right. Eat here, great place. the breakfast menue starts at $2.95 and goes up to $9.95 <~~~ The Big American Breakfast (way huge!) Also if you cut down main street by one of the Dive shops is The Seahorse Cafe. You can get an omlet there for $4.00.

Most Important info....you need to eat dinner at two places Chez Lucille, about a 2 minute walk on your way to town, almost right beside Divi,(http://www.bonairedining.com/chezlucille/)

and Richards seafront dinning, go out the main entrance of Divi and take a right it's a block down on you right, the items are soooo fresh and good that he uses a chalkboard as the menu.

Hope this helps.

The garlic shrimp and the tomato basil soup are incredible at Chez Lucille's!! That is a must to place for us as well.

We never made it to the Lost Penguin in June when we were there, they always seemed to be closed. But from what I've seen posted their breakfasts are also great. If you are not big breakfast eaters, rent one of Divi's small fridge's and keep some milk, cereal, pastries, snacks, or whatever in it. It will be a lot cheaper than paying full pop for a light breakfast.
