Heh, anyone doing an outdoor BBQ today is going to get their food charcoal boiled... :-)

Thankfully the rain slowed down enough yesterday for us to finish planting the garden. 11 tomato plants, 8 eggplants, 8 hot pepper plants, a whole row of sunflowers, 6 or 8 zucchini plants, several packages of soybeans (edamame!), a package of green chard seeds, and a pack of mustard greens of some sort. Oh, and 5 basil plants into the herb garden, too. If all this stuff takes root and thrives, along with the rest of what was already there, we're going to eat well (and cheap!) this summer!

Had our first radish out of the garden the other night. First fresh produce of the season! We've been using thyme and oregano out of the herb garden already, too, plus rosemary out of the big pot out front. We actually got a rosemary plant to survive the winter, for once! Did you know that rosemary can flower? We sure didn't! Lovely little tiny blue flowers, very pretty...

Time to go clean house -- company coming later...

Faith

So much for mowing the grass or should I think about draining the swamp instead. It was so sucking this weekend we even blew off diving, normally rain is not a problem when diving. Not true this weekend, it's also been windy which closes out all the salt water and with the volume of rain and the cold water even a fresh water dive would be bogus.

We did make it up to Art's cottage on the lake yesterday. We put in his dock and then spent the rest of time drinking, fishing, eating, playing dominoes and drinking. I caught the only fish which was the same fish I caught last year, this guy.

Fish

Nice to know he doing fine and does not hold last years catch against me. Lucky on fishing almost lucky on dominoes, I was winning till the last game which I lost big (stinking double 0's).

bass Cecil - that is so cool! Do you do a weigh-in on him every year? I was able to raise a couple lm bass from fingerlings we caught in a seine in the Connecticut River, in the big tanks at the museum.

eat Those guys would eat anything, any time. They'd cruise back and forth when I was near the tank - they'd make believe they weren't paying any attention to me - then POW! they'd hit minnows, mice, frogs - anything that had passed on to greener pastures. That's recycling. LOL

Sailing and diving, ahhhh, the good life:

faith Faith's getting the same weather we are. LOL Our ponds have gorgeous tall green sword-like leaves from a sweet flag plant we were given five years ago. The stuff grows like kudzu. We now have four pots-full and it already needs repotting AGAIN! Until yesterday they were standing straight up like cat-tails. Today? Phhhhht. Flattened by the heavy rain. Isn't that always the way?

berries Sounds like Faith will have a little Farmer's Market soon. :-) All we have right now is rhubarb, chives and lots of mint. Coming soon though are blueberries and strawberries. Both are in flower and covered with blossoms.

Dad went to a Memorial Day gathering this morning - check out the bumbershoots.

Monday, Monday, I do love that day............

Well, when its a holiday, I love that day; otherwise, you can have it.

Raining here as well. Seems like Martine is the only one having decent weather. I saw one of the national weather reports on TV last night. Looked like almost the entire US was covered with clouds.

Sitting here having a cup of coffee, before I go back to bed. Couldn't sleep. Of course, now that I've had a cup of coffee, I probably won't sleep anyway. Guess I'll just stay up.

Hmmm, just looked outside for the first time this morning. Guess I need to revise my prior comment. Its not raining here, and, although its thin, there is some blue sky up there. Maybe we will get our planting done today.

With all this rain, I've started a small home project. Can anyone tell me how long a cubit is??

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #6702) on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 1:38 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

rusty, did you fix that up, or is that just a noreaster downpour???

bob, a cubit is from the tip of a finger to the tip of your elbow...or, one and a half feet...or 18 inches...or...roughly from the tip of your elbow to the tip of your finger...(i'm about to measure mine now)....so you want to let us in on your secret project???? or are you going to ask us how much a hen weighs???

It was a whale I tell you. Had to fight it for hours to land him.

Would you believe ...

On another note, I love high tech. I just finished getting together all of our music for Bonaire. Which basically consists of every song we love to hear over and over again. It's about 150 songs, 620 megs, one CD (I'll probably cut a spare), two headphones, two portable speakers and one player. Talk about packing light.

It's quite a eclectic mix that we've been gathering over the last few months. Everything from Beatles, to classic, to the Dixie Chicks, lots of Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, Anne Murphy, Momas and the Pappas, Carol King and John Denver.

All moved grated, leveled and seeded. No grass babies yet, but with all this rain they may not be able to breath underwater.

Hi there my BT buddies and friends

I like the sound of your music, Cecil. I am of course not at all bothered by your talk of getting ready for you holidays. And not all bothered that you'll be seeing this for real soon and I won't. Not at all you understand. LOL

sunshine

We have not had lots of rain today, and for a Bank Holiday quite a nice sunny weekend. Depends on where in the country you were though.

Annie the common name is a Small Mouth Bass. Bass fishing is a cult in the US and has a huge following with a professional tour and massively overpaid pro's. Imagine getting buckets of money to go fishing. One of the funny rules by the way is a dead bass loses points. In fact they even go out so far as to release the fish where they were caught.
