It's Herb Day garden

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

herbs

Herbs have been used for food and medicine since prehistoric times. About 25% of the prescription drugs sold in the U.S. are plant based - and many more are included in over-the-counter drugs. But, herbs aren't just for medicinal use today. They are fun to grow, add interesting flavors to your cooking and are a staple in natural crafts.

plants

What's your herbal connection? No, no confessions now, we aren't the law. LOL Is it herbal tea? Herb garden full of runaway mints? How about Valerian and St. Johnswort for their calming properties? Feverfew for headaches? Garlic in the dogfod to repel fleas? Share!

Hiya Rusty. I have some herbs growing in the garden. I have bay leaves which I use in soups and stews etc., bay my plant is more like a bush rather than a tree though. I have two types of chives, onion and garlic, which are good for chopping onto salads to add flavour. Also a rosemary bush, which we normally take pieces from and throw it on the bbq and the smell is gorgeous.pick I used to have a curry plant too, but it died. AnniE B.

mint I have the above-mentioned runaway mint plants. When the dogs nose into there chasing the chipmunk the smell is heavenly - the whole patio smells like toothpaste. :-) That area is overrun with apple mint. I started with a half dozen flavors - lemon balm, apple mint, pineapple mint, spearmint, pepeprmint, but the apple mint went gonzo!

lemon I LOVE lemon balm so I got a couple more plants and planted them near my kitchen pond last spring - and they are flourishing. I drop a few leaves into my ice tea glass (after bruising them}.

blue We have a couple Colonial-style herb gardens around this area, both in historic sections, Deerfield and Storrowton Village here in town. I love to walk around and try to figure out what's what. They always have blue false indigo - and the foliage and flowers are both beautiful - so I planted a row along the house when we moved here and it's done beautifully. Not sure what the colonists used it for - it's just a gorgeous standing pea. (?!)

plant My latest aquisition is from George (Freddie's George). He sent me home with a horseradish plant. It's leafing out and will be ready to plant soon. I LOVED the sauce he made for Easter. Hotcha!

Cindi how do you "hang sings off the rubble"? I can see "hanging of sings off the rabble" Is that what the Sirens to Jason? Now days do you have to use an underwater voice transmitter? When ever I try to sing in the rubble I hurt my feet...

pod Cecil, that is one beautiful sunset, dude! WOWZA! PHENOM! RADICAL!

thumbs Clint, good sleuthing on the ATK logo, I was thinking that there was a comma on each side of the initials on the sign. Now i get it. THe 12:12 shot shows the Stoplight Pooping Parrotfish that was laying down the coral sand in the previous shots. That's that inital phase - before the stoplights get really bright.

smokey Smokey the Rock says: Only you can prevent coral damage!
