Hi all,

Cecil, you inspired me to share a few pics. I often carry around my digital camera with me on errands and outings. The liberation from film and processing is not lost on this artist! Haven't got an underwater camera; that's Bob's thing. I like to dive with hands and eyeballs free and clear.

So anyway, I live in the wet part of Oregon. These two shots are taken 30 seconds apart and ninety degrees apart, after the peace march on Saturday. Sort of symbolic, maybe....

rain rainbow

This plant is some kind of magnolia, I think, outside a nearby medical office building. The fragrance is exquisite, and I took an outrageous number of macros so I could keep breathing the aroma! Up close! ( My camera will focus as close as a fourth of an inch.)

Earlier I went over to a pond where people feed ducks, and I overheard the one Canada goose (in the bottom left corner) say to the other, "I told you seagulls will eat anything!" What I was really shooting was the color-shapes on the water surface.

On the way back from Bob's last time, I stopped where I had previously staked out a neat creek at about milepost 28. I was ducking raindrops as usual, but managed a few pictures. You can see that all the trees have been guzzling moisture year-in-year-out -- they have coats of moss hanging on them.

Different from Bonaire, no? Different from New Hampshire too....

Heh, heh, for the eagle-eyed viewers, I must admit I was editing out the power poles and wires on the rainbow, but forgot I wasn't done...! Oh well. The new healing tool in Photoshop 7 is good for that...

Anyone up yet on the other side of the ocean? It's 1am here...

Amazing shots, niki, thanks for posting them. The rain and the rainbow shots are superb. I am a novice with it, but thanks to Igor, I have paint shop pro 7 - what's a healing tool?

What camera you got? I'm just about to get myself a digital camera. So I can post pics on here too.

Hi Jenni. I bought myself a FujiFinePix S602 Zoom last October. Such a fun camera....

I'm not familiar with Paint Shop Pro. Photoshop is the professional photo editing program. It always had a "cloning" tool which can retouch photos by using pixels from one area and placing them over anything you want to cover. The new "healing" tool does almost the same thing, but takes into account the environment around/behind the place being fixed. So a good use of it would be to smooth out the skin on the face. It's more subtle than cloning.

Very Nice, Niki. Love the rainbow and the flowers. Digital photography seems to open so many more opportunities to take pictures. Hey, I already taken 2 pictures today and it's only 8:30 AM.

Niki, one thing to try next time when you do macro, is to turn on the flash. Low setting, you may get more colors, may make it to harsh. But's it's digital and free.

Hey, there Niki! Nice shots. It's always fun to see other parts of the world. Very nicely done, young lady! I love digital, too, for its freedom and independence of the processing lab. It's fun to play with the shots with the camera and also back at home on the PC. I can't imagine what they will come with next....can't wait! See you in two months!! Carole
