It's...
Chewing Gum Day

Modern chewing gum was invented when "chicle" was brought to the U.S. (Chicle is latex sap - much like rubber). In 1870, the first flavored gum, Black Jack, was manufactured. Wrigley was selling Spearmint and Juicy Fruit by 1893. Chiclets and gumballs came in the early 1900s - and Walter Diemer invented Dubble Bubble bubble gum in 1928. The best news is that after WWII, chemists learned how to make artificial gum bases to use instead of chicle. anything

Oh yes, we stayed with her dad on Curacao and her sister on Bonaire. She does miss it, but she wouldn't want to go back living on Curacao, it's become too crowded. Bonaire however would be very nice to live, for both of us. We're seriously considering it and actively looking at possibilities.

anything I'm back from the dentist. I went to the chair like a lamb to the slaughter, reverted back to my childhood days anything Made sure he knew I was dentalphobic. It took nearly 2 hours to rebuild my tooth. Opted for private treatment which didn't cost too much at all, and I can eat on it straight away. He's done a great job in giving me my toofie back, and it DIDN'T HURT a single bit. anything anything

lolli Annie! That's super news. I'm so glad you have your tooth back and can look forward to a stress-free dental future. LOL Things really are changing. Did you have novacaine? Did he drill or sandblast the decay away? Silver fillings? Did you get a lollipop for being a good girl?

Hi All,

Just finished all the work I was planning to do today - soooooo (just kidding!)

Glad to hear that the tooth repair was painless Annette. Do you have an option to choose a "state financed dentist" or a "private dentist"? Does one use rusty tools and the other hi-tech stainless?

Marc - as per post on web cams thread. Hope you are feeling better on this "Monday" sick day wink

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Rusty. There was no decay apparently. He said that the tooth must have weakened, and an old filling fell out. I felt a twinge after first injection, so he gave me a stronger one, that did the trick. Decided to have a white filling which can only be done privately. A silver one would have shown up too much. May even opt for all white fillings in the future. anything

billbot So that's what a private treatment is. I was thinking the other option had to be public - like he's filling your teeth on the street outside the office.

Hi guys
wave
Annie, I too pay privately for white fillings. And every time a 'silver' [amalgum] ones comes out I have it replaced with a white one. Many believe the mercury causes all sorts of problems with memory later in life, and I have enough problems as it is without mercury causing me more.!!! Glad you got pain-free treatment.

Are the 09.04 guys the ones who Glenn invited to take a dictionary with them to their Bonaire party?

Off to Pilates class soon. pilates

It takes ages to read the threads and catch up. Worth it tho'.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Bill & Cheryl Rathborne on Monday, September 30, 2002 - 10:31 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

So if I understand correctly. "public" dentists in Britain don't do "white" fillings. That is odd! I do as you do Jenni - any old silver fillings are replaced with the UV hardened epoxy white ones. Like adding gas to an already raging fire to get anything that might make my memory worse!

Rusty - Yes the rates are lower if it is raining out ;-)

Some good captures on the cams this morning. all quiet right now tho.

Bill

hedgehog Spike's a good name for both the porcupine AND the surgeonfishes. I suppose we can call the surgeons DOC. :)

Hiya - back from Pilates. Lovely day here, so a fantastic trip over the [moors]Pennines and back.

Chewing Gum Day chewgum

Wrigley is from hereabouts. He lived about 4 miles from where I do now. We were talking about him in Spanish class this morning, funnily enough.

Yes, Bill, that is right. State will only pay for an amalgum filling, if you want white ones you have to pay for them. But only the filling part, not the whole treatment. So when I had my troublesome root filling, even though I went to the dentists 6 or 7 times and had preferential treatment over one weekend, the root filling was something like £40, but the white filling was an extra £75!!!!

Dentists are not usually poor here!!!
