I may be in Auckland, New Zealand next month on business and wonder if there if there is any worthwhile diving within a 2 hour drive.

I will definitely be in Sydney Australia on business; is there anything around there? I probably don't have time to get to the Great Barrier Reef.

Any feedback or comments appreciated.

Sue - I dove the GBR, but don't know much about diving around Sydney. There is so much to see and do in Sydney topside though, I'd love to go back.

I think there is good diving (but cold) in the Auckland area, I've seen some stuff on the web and in diving magazines. Again, I was in Auckland but only for a few days and stuck to topside activities. New Zealand is definitely on my list of places to revisit.

I know I wasn't much help, sorry... I'm jealous that you are going though :-)

Becky - thanks for the insight that Auckland is cold. I am a warm water diver. I tried a dry suit once at a demo at our local quarry and hated it. I was too tall(5'9") for the women's suits the had on hand so I got a man's suit, but with my tiny wrists and thin neck lead to horrible leaks, plus the inflator didn't work well. Not a fun experience.

We are leaving a South Pacific tour for a family adventure in summer 2010 or 2011. Guess I will just be a topside tourist in Sydney and soak up the sun since it will be summer.
