Good Morning BT!
It's a pretty morning here in west central Florida. No clouds and it's chilly at 53 degrees - for us. So.... that means pancakes with Vermont Maple Syrup!

Good morning everyone! I'm pulling work duty today, but it looks like a quiet day. Alot of people going home, & no one in labor!!!t rained so hard all last nite, but I can see sun & blue sky this morning! I'm feeling so much better after my emergent trip to the hospital last month...that was so scary!! Hope you all have a great day! I haven't been here in awhile...can you guys tell me about Kaarien?

Morning Susan and Kathy.
Glad it looks like a slow day at work for you Susan. My husband is working at the hospital today, too.
Kathy, are your tootsies cold? :-):-)
About Kaarien? All I know is that we lost contact with her. I think her e-mail was shut down. Dosen't look good. :-(:-(
I'm heading out for spin, but will return in a couple of hours.
See YA!

Good Morning Linda, PS, susan, Kathy and Donna...and all who follow.

Well it's not sunny here unfortunately and it is cold, cold, cold. I'm only going to keep the dogs outside for 1 hour - even little Spec has a sweater on....BRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I WAS going to take them for walks - we'll see if that happens.

Yesterday was all about spending money. Our local merchants had an open house downtown and so I visited many of them. Bought some Christmas gifts and bought one for myself while I was at it. My friend Patti Lawrence has a shop "gallery of local artists" and I bought one of her wall sculptures. The family LOVES it. Glad they do because I wasn't intending to bring it back. I have it hung in the entry way right next to a LARGE mirror and by the front door. That was an open spot and this piece is perfect for that area.

The big dogs crack me up - our pool is covered with that heavy duty elephants can walk on it cover...they play on that thing. They run around on it and chase each other - cracks me up.

Oh well - I have lots of wrapping to do for my Salvation Army Angel and just a few gifts for my family. It's a different type of Christmas this year and I really like that.

Hope everyone has a stellar Sunday.

Morning, girls and guys who come later :-)

Mara, sounds like you did some retail therapy!! GOOD GIRL :-) I know the local retailers appreciate spending money locally.
Your sculpture sounds beautiful.

Our girls used to love to run out on Rob's parent's pool cover; that's good fun:-)
Chilly here today and the girls have been in and out and in and out a few times this morning. They tear through the leaves!

Thank you for being an Army Angel; they will LOVE receiving your gifts! This year will be different for us as well; time for a change and back to basics for our clan!

Nice tunes, Tom! Hope you're home and snuggled in soon. Sorry you're feeling icky!

Doing some house chores and trying to decide if I feel like cleaning another closet. I'm thinking.....NO! Mom just called so she'll be inbound sometime late morning. She was going by my sister's first to drop off some things and get some Rylan kisses :-)

I'm anxious to see how Bubbles reacts to Kemper. He weighs 22 lbs; 3 times as much as one of my girls. Four doggies ought to bring on some laughs :-)

Morning all, just waiting for my plumber friend to get here and fix my "frost free water hydrant" that I use to get water to the horses. Something "broke" last week :-(

KIV/Two Rolls - you should have a blast watching Bubbles with Kemper - they're technically both terriers, so have the same temperment. And remember, it's not always the bigger dog who's boss... I bet Bubbles is top dog in about 1.2 nanoseconds! :-)
puppy

Better run and watch for the plumber. (the only reason I'm able to get a house call on a Sunday is he's one of my Bonaire dive buddies!!! It pays to go on dive trips afterall!!!:-))

We had a bit of rain for the last few days, but very warm, 71 yesterday. Sun is out and temp is falling. I'm making some demi-glass today, the house smells real good right now. I started with ten lbs of veal and beef bones in the oven. Should be done around midnight, I hope???

I think Bubbles will show that she's in charge in very short order :-) She's an attention hog so Kemper can give her ALL the attention she can stand here soon enough LOL!
I'm gonna have FOUR terriers in one house....OYE I might drink early today!

Tribs, none of my girls weigh more than 7 lbs. :-) Bubbles will be a year old on the 19th of this month. She's stockier than the other 2 but I still think she's less than or right at the 7 lb. mark. She's pure meaness LOL!

Hi! I'm back from class, coffee, and a trip to Michael's Craft store. I could spend all day there, Joann's and any book store. I picked up a set of sketching pens and charcoal for my sister for Christmas. I love art stuff, but can't draw a straight line with a ruler. PS - the Dewent stuff is 40% off at Michael's.

Now to finish my "women's work". Really need to vacuum this kitty fur up. Ashlee has been very generous this week with her fur.

Tom. I love that picture, and am so happy you are pleased with Pauline.

Kobi, How ya doing? 4 dogs, only liquids and no shopping today. You must be in He((! Sorry.

Becky, Sorry about the water situation. Hope it's taken care of by now.

Yo. Thanks for reminding me I need to purchase toys and other presents for charities and extra food for food banks. Check! It's on my list of things to do this week now.

Donna, Jerry, good to see you this morning - oops it's afternoon.

Tribs - YGM :-)

Morning Everyone!!
It's hot here today and most importantly... no wind :-) Cynde called me last night to tell me about the fires in Orange County --- very sad.
On that note, I found out that there is a huge need for Foster Homes for displaced pets from the 200+ burned homes. I mentioned it to Guy and SURPRISE!!! he didn't say NO!
I'm going to see what I can find. Since we don't have a permanent guest bed (only a blow-up mattress), our house isn't conducive to long-term roommates, but a small dog is certainly easy enough. My friend says there are all kinds of animals and the shelters were full already so the need is great.

Kobi, I'd be nervous too but we'll all 'be there' with you --- that should give you a shudder or two llllollll!!!

Tom, sorry that you're under the weather (and not under the water). I'm quite sure WHN is pretty good at nursing you back to health though :-)

Becky, good luck with the plumbing - nice to have friends with skills!

PegiSue, Linda, Tribs, Jerry, Kathy and everyone else..... HAPPY SUNDAY!!!!!!!!

I'm going to take Rasta for a walk on the bluffs. It's just too pretty to stay inside.

It will be a good holiday though - like Mara said it will be different but BETTER. Much more caring and sharing.

Rianna and myself really want a puppy. Ravi says an absolute NO! I'm thinking about getting one and trying to pull off a story that I found it and look how cute it is, can't we keep it, sad face, wrinkled lip act. What do you think? I'm thinking small like a Yorkie so I can be a yorkiemommy too! I know it's not the best way but I think he will love it, he never had pets growing up but he loves all our friends and families pets. Boom, THANK YOU for opening your heart and home to a foster furchild! It's so terribly sad about all the loss and having folks like you is such a blessing!

RA!!!! You are sneaky! I would only buy from a reputable breeder though to ensure a healthy pup. Too many backyard breeders and puppymills support pet stores and that is a horrible environment for any animal. My Yorkie rescue group sees too many pups from mills and surrenders.
There may be Yorkie rescue in your area! Good luck and, you know, I'm overly biased by your possible choice :-)

RA, that's kind of what I did with Rasta. Guy kept saying "No, not ready yet" but it had been a year since we lost our Aussie, Sam. I brought Rasta home (a friend owns a petshop and rescued Rasta from a puppymill) and she went right under Guy's chair where he was working, I had to go back to work so they spent the day bonding.
She never left :-):-)

Please check your shelters though or even better some from down here or SoCal --- it's so sad how many have lost homes between foreclosures and now fires. :-(

Whatever you decide... GO FOR IT!!!! Ravi will get over it and your home will be full of love and laughter!!!!

Haha ~ talk of puppydom sure brought us out of the woodwork.

Puppymills are just horrible --- Rasta has had dysplacia since she was a baby - we had one hip operated on at 11 months. They attribute it to being kept in a small cage from birth to 3 months (when we got her). I wish there were someway to close those b&*###ds down for good.

Speaking of.... I really should get her to the bluffs for a walk :-):-):-)

It's just so nice hanging out with ya'll.

YAY - plumbing fixed :-) Luckily it was just a handle problem and I don't need an excavator to come in and dig up the whole stinking thing! Thanks Dive Buddy, Royal!!!:-) Here he is on our trip last March:
Royal in Bonaire

RA - good luck rescuing a puppy in need. I will re-iterate the above sentiments that are anti-pet store and anti-puppymill and anti-backyard breeder. If you want any help choosing a good breeder, feel free to email. I have lots of connections in the "good" breeder world and am sure I could hook you up!

Hi again. :-)

Larry's looking AGAIN for a puppy for us to adopt. :-) This time, I'm not allowing any aggressive or big breeds or heavy shedders, though I would love a Caymus of my own. Poor thing would be a house doggie, so I'm thinking a small dog would be better. He's trying to get me to give in to a doberman, but no no, that's out. Anyone ever have a poodle? I'm kinda loving this baby:
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12095501

Oh, and I FINALLY learned how to do eBay, and after a first mistake of listing my brother's ticketmaster cards and had immediate buyers for all 4, they pulled my listing because I listed all 4 cards and you can't sell over $500 in gift cards per week. So anyway, already sold the one for $500 for $410, and will do the next one next Sunday and the same guy is going to buy it (for football game tickets). It makes me happy he and my nephew will have a nice Christmas!

And in other stuff, we had a kind of block party last night and made more friends. All you have to do here is go for a walk and there's a party somewhere and you're invited. We really love our neighborhood. :-) Some funny people live here! :-)

Happy Sunday all of you.

Kathy - poodles are extremely smart, but do have some inherent health problems (dental disease is rampant in the breed, and I see lots with heart problems and knee problems). That being said - when well trained, they are a wonderful little dog! Good luck!:-)

Off I go to my glass workshop, my mom just gave me another project to do for Christmas for my grandma and grandpa. :-)

Becky, thanks for the input. That baby has already had a knee operation. I like that she's smart and beautiful and small, though. Don't want to make a mistake, though. What kind of dog do you (or anyone) suggest for us? No big yard but a big lake to walk around, need a snuggle baby kind of dog who gets along with cats and other dogs, and not too messy/shedding-wise? And NOT a shoe chewer! lol

Donna, you're NEVER alone! I'm actually alone now, but not really, because Cali is with me and I'm here. :-) (And there....shopping online for my grands.)

Kathy, good luck with your decision. I grew up with Poodles.
Small dogs do tend to suffer more tarter/dental issues; more so than the big doggers. Brushing the toofers between vet dentals is a good routine to get into.
We had to have knee surgery on Kibbles as she had a luxating patella when she was very young. Thankfully the three gals I have now are OK in the knee department.

Let us know if you join puppydom too :-)

Kemp is a cutest, friendliest, black mini Schnauzer though. I am hopeful Bubbles will come around but so far no dice. Bits and Bini are indifferent so that's good.

Hello Again :-)
I've never gotten a dog based on the breed - Gomez (lab/husky mix) was born to friends, Sam (Aussie) was rescued from Guy's alcoholic brother, and Rasta (rescued from puppymill).

Guy really wants to get another Aussie but there will never be another Sammie ~ she was a wonderful dog. She was 10 and badly abused when he took her in and we had her for another 5 years. It took her over a year before she trusted us but after that she was beyond amazing.

Rasta and I just had such a wonderful walk but it feels like Summer out there. She will sleep the rest of the day for sure.
I'm off to an Open House for the neighbor group.
See ya'll later.

I've never chosen a pet at all! lol Whoever shows up on my doorstep and needs a home, that's my baby. Sheba, the German Shepard we had for 14 years, (with me, 13 years) came with Larry, as did Angelina the beautiful white Absynian (sp?) cat with me. But Angelina didn't fare well in the big city and ran in front of a car. Saddest day, ever, as Brooke found her before I did. Then Brooke brought Cali home as a 6 wk old kitten, and she was so sweet, and we fell in love, and she was going to a shelter for sure death (as Brooke said over and over) if we didn't take her. So we took her and she thrived and has adjusted to our move and all, and is our baby for the rest of our lives. But getting to actually PICK a pet from a pet adoption program, sounds like the way I'd like to do this. Emma just looks like my kind of baby, and my sister had a dog named Emma that she had to let go to adoption when she moved into the assisted living facility.

Seems like a good sign.

I filled out the application (very heartfelt) and hope we're approved for her. I hated stating that we're gone 8 hrs every day. :-( the truth. But I said we'd install doggie doors to the lanai and one to the back yard. Getting serious here. I want a snuggle baby doggie.

Oh, and Larry just called me from Circuit City and he's bought us a 45 in plasma TV. lol I guess I'm waiting for a lot tonight. :-)

Hope everyone had a great one. And I keep worrying about the CA fires, so keep us posted, Boom and all you Cali people.

Kathy,
Being gone 8 hours isn't necessarily a bad thing in a rescue's eyes... depends on the rescue, though.

If Emma is "pee pad" trained, you could baby gate her in a kitchen or other smallish room and have an area for her to "go" in while you are gone.

You could also find a pet walking serivce or neighbor to let her out mid-day (retired person who loves dogs??) and that would help.

I know you are looking for small, but boy is this guy cute!!!
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12213697

And Tom, agreed - we want pictures of Kobi's dogs... not her procedure, LOL!

OMG Becky he is beautiful!

But, in my former marriage, I had 2 male wolf hounds, and though they were beautiful, they never had the loving personality that female animals have had, to me, and they were NOt house dogs. I may be unjustly prejudiced against male dogs and cats. Male dogs were aggressive and a male cat sprayed behind my piano and it never went away, the skunk smell.

I thank you all for your input, and am excited about getting a new baby, and a new TV. :-)

And I hope all this health stuff is over by Tuesday, at least the knowing what I have to do part.

I'm really hoping for Emma. I got an email back, and I think they are coming to "inspect" me and my home. :-) I keep looking at her picture, and I just think we're supposed to be. I hope I'm not wrong.

RA - Go for it! We had Black Jack for about 14 years, Dog Pound dog, mix of black lab and ?. He was almost blind and deaf, and started having seizures, so we had to make the DECISION. John came home from the vet's, and went to bed for the rest of the day. He said he never wanted another dog, closed subject.

Well I knew how much my husband loved dogs, so I waited a couple of months, just looking around. A co-worker was training a golden retriever as a service dog, and I was so impressed with this wonderful dog, I decided to go with a golden girl. I rationalized that BJ was a black boy, and we were going with a golden girl, so we were not replacing BJ.

I got home from work one day and the kids and I went to get our new girl. I was wearing a long skirt, and this feisty little dark golden girl kept nipping at my skirt. Danielle said - That's the one! A girl with guts!

So we were all in the family room when John got home, with a couple of the kid's friends, and John spied the puppy and got on the floor and started hugging her. He asked Brendan if it was his dog, and Brendan said - You know my parents only have german shephards...... He asked Marcy - Is it your puppy? And she said - You know my mom won't even have a gold fish..... So he looks around and asks - Then whose dog is it - and we all said - Happy Father's Day - She's yours! And thus Dagny Rand joined our family!

We fell in love with the golden retriever breed, and when we lost Dagny very suddenly almost 3 years ago, we had a new puppy 7 days later. That's Chaos! We didn't replace Dagny, we just added Chaos to the family to share the love, and heal the hearts. We have a big yard, a pool, 40 feet on a lake, and it's a great life for a large dog.

And just to redeem myself for loving and purchasing a specific breed, ALL of our cats have found us!

Here's the deal, this afternoon I was crashed in the living room when I received a phone call. I got up and noticed that my left foot felt weird (thank you slipper - thank you) nuff said. Almost forgot, free pair of size 12 slippers go with Sadie:-) As is, no refunds no returns.

Only kidding folks, I'm keeping Sadie (aka Ratdog). The slippers are available tho, I'll ship for free:-) snort

Kathy - We wanted another golden girl, but the litter we chose Chaos from had 5 boys and 1 girl, and there is NOTHING aggressive about our boy. Once you go to see them, you just fall in love. Chaos was the runt of the litter, but at 95 lbs now, we wonder how big his brothers are!

Cheeko our cat is a boy too. We were down to Smokey, a male tabby, and daughter moved back home with cat - moved across the ocean and we again have a cat! Smokey has since passed on, and Cheeko is a darling of a boy!

Oh Man, you guys are making me want to go right now to get a puppy! :-) If I do it it will be after Christmas because we will be away then and I'd hate to leave a puppy alone, oh wait Auntie CB might want to puppy sit!!!!! :-)

I grew up with big dogs, a collie named Ripples I got when I was 5 and he left us when I was 22! I cried for weeks, he was part of my life growing up. Then my mom got Sharif, a doberman who was the sweetest girl you can imagine. We didn't have her long enough, 4 years before she was stricken with heart worm. She was a lap dog and I am not kidding, all 80 lbs. of her would jump up and cuddle and nuzzle and sleep. My mom loved her, she kept her company when all the kids were gone.

Wow, Larry brought home a 50 inch plasma tv. It's so BIG! lol I was wrong, or he changed his mind after he called me. Dang. It's working, and we have to move the entertainment center thingies so it fits, but DANG! It's HUGE!

I got an email back on Emma, so we get to meet next week sometime, not yet finalized on the when and where, but I'm PICKED as a potential parent. :-)

Donna, I smoke, (wish I didn't), but outside. Till the docs make me quit! My house is only 1695 sq. ft but with the lanai it's over 2k.

I get to pick a pet, and so can you! I've never picked a pet, but I'm so happy to work with an animal adoption center.

I really really want a snuggle puppy. I want Emma. I really, really want Emma.

Goodnight all. :-) xxxx

Donna - the only problem I see is that your yard isn't fenced, but if you live close to an off leash dog park, that may not matter. Greyhounds don't need huge houses, they are total couch potatoes... I'm talking under the blanket couch potatoes! :-) I LOVE greyhounds. Talk to a rescue and see what their requirements actually are. I've never heard one refusing to adopt because the house was small or someone smoked. Fenced yard may depend on the dog and the rescue. GO FOR IT!!! :-)

This is fun, picking out pets for other people!!! :-)

Hey Beck-ee...ya wanna feed and walk the dog for me, too! Just kidding!!

Yeah, maybe I'll look into it again after the holidays...a few years ago I was really, really interested, but didn't think I'd make the criteria....as far as the off leash dog park...nothing like that here....I live in the woods....oh and the rescue site I looked at said that you had to have a huge cage/pen set up in your house, too..no real room for that, but I COULD do that if I had to.

I usually don't go pick my pets either. I had a part Jack Russell that I adopted from a shelter when Amanda was 9. He died a few years ago. He was a sweety....otherwise animals usually just come to me in one way or another....friend that's moving, ailing grandparent who can't care for it, etc.. I need a doggie to fall into my lap. :-)

Oh my. All this talk of pet adoption is making it tempting to go and get another pet.
Kathy. I've had both male and female cats and have never one spray/pee anywhere except their box. Maybe none of them had a territory issue or they were too lazy to be territorial.
When Ashlee and I met it was love at first sight. We had just lost our BIG (20 lb.) black cat Bandit 3 weeks before and I was going nuts without a fur friend. Terry had gone to Petsmart to check out the cats there. Our only requirement was that it was an adult cat that needed a home. He found a sweet adult tiger striped female, Sushi, and wanted me to meet her after work. So I did, but she was asleep and wouldn't wake up. Over in the corner cage came the biggest purring I'd ever heard, so I went to check it out. OMG there she was all 7.5 lbs of her - all white with black spots on her face. Picasina was her name. She has the best disposition - has never bitten or scratched anyone.

A shot of the other markings.
ashlee back

I've had LOTS of issues with kitties(both male and female) peeing in the wrong place(usually throw rugs for some reason), but usually when they are old or upset only. So far, so good with picco...although he DOES like to puke on beds, couches, etc....

A very late Hi to Everyone :-) Stuff kept getting in the way today...so no time for the 'puter.
Tom - Pauline is beautiful :-) Linda - great work :-) :-) Hope you're feeling better :-)
Becky - hope you've got your water problems resolved...that's no fun humping buckets!
Boom - you are so good to foster a furkid for other folks while they try to get their lives back in order. Hope you had a good walk with Rasta on the bluffs :-)
Kobi - enjoy your Mommy time and just think...this time tomorrow you'll be good as new (minus 2 rolls). I'm sure you'll be just fine.
Gail - great dog stories :-)
Kathy - I sure am hoping you are approved for Emma...sounds like a match to me :-) And good luck with your tests.
Donna - go for the greyhound! My F-I-L had a greyhound who raced & she was the sweetest, calmest dog. Becky is so right...they are great companion dogs and cuddly.
As far as containment goes we've had invisible fence for 5 years now & I swear by it. Millie is an escape artist & prior to the fence ran away 3x. The training only took about 2 weeks...she blew through it once & never again. The nice thing about it too is that it can go underground & above ground and cover a very large area. We've got about 1 acre covered & she knows her bounderies...not even a squirrel or other dog can get her to cross the line. I have heard from some people that it doesn't work because the dog gets too excited & doesn't care...but for us & other people I know it works.
Becky - what do you think of Labradoodles? They seem like a really cool breed from what I've read.
P.S. No, Freddie, we're not getting another dog :-)
Hope I didn't miss anyone.....and hope everyone has a good evening.
Thinking of all the Cali folks and just hoping for low winds & rain.

Hey Two Rolls, I'll trade you a Bubblette for a Sadie for a while.

Since W.H.N. and I have been together, all of our furkids have come from the Humane Society or were on their way there. Come to think of it, I think W.H.N. found me sleeping in a ditch in front of the shelter 20 years ago. Still have trouble not chasing cars at times.

We have had more trouble with our slick skin kids making messes on the floor (when they were babes) than we have had with our furkids:-) Still have work to do with Benny, something about him and trees....

Hugs, Two Dogs
