Hello fellow winos - oops, I mean BTers.

Ok - here's the deal. Pete's been traveling all week and will be having to travel the weekend to going back and forth to Knoxville. I'm cooking him a nice dinner tonight but want some advice on what wine to select. Now let's start with price - I'm CHEAP so please try to stick and prices UNDER $20.

So here's the menu:

Hot and Sweet Grilled Tilapia
tilapia fillets
olive oil
salt
pepper
2 TBS fresh squeezed lime juice
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp minced fresh ginger
1 tsp minced fresh green chili

Sauteed Cauliflower with Anise and Cashews
canola oil
anise seeds
dry red chilies
shallots
minced ginger
cauliflower
salt
cashews

Clouds of Cardamom and Cashew Cookies
typical cookie stuff
flour
butter
powdered sugar
cashews
vanilla extract
cardamom
salt
....this desert is still not finalized - I'm actually going to look for something else but that's what I'm going for right now........

So - what are your suggestions. I leave work around 4:30 (2 1/2 hours from now) so anything you can think of before then would be great.

Thanks

But what if I am making Blushing Apples for dessert??

2 (3 ounce) packages JELL-O Brand Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups water
4 medium apples, such as Granny Smith, McIntosh or Golden Delicious
1/2 cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

Semi-dry white for dinner Yo, then I would change to a semi-sweet for desert.

I like Australian wines. Many are within a nice price range, as a cheapo-wino...this is imperative for me, hehe

I am certain Jerry will pop in with names for good picks for you. I like Shiraz and do not eat fish so I am not qualified to choose a grape for this dish.

Pinot Grigio or a Pinot Gris?

Bonny Doon Pacific Rim Dry Riesling -- great with seafood & spicy dishes. Should be $10-12.

Welcome to Bonaire Talk John.

Mara, reduce 1/2 cup of wine till about 2tbs, add to the mix. I would use just one tbs of lime, serve a wedge on the side if needed. My wine pick is Ch. Ste. Michelle Eroica Riesling 2006. Chilled, not cold.

Enjoy the diner.

Freddie - BIG ending??? hmmmm - I think, well, yes that sounds like a plan. But visuals baby - where are the visuals.. JK - I'll look in my Yahoo mail for the "other" pictures from the pier/dock. oh never mind.

Jerry - I like that idea. Cook 1/2 a cup and drink the rest - sounds good to me. And then serve the Reisling with dinner. And finish off with a Port - oh baby! A wino's dream come true.

Always cook with the wine you will be drinking.
Don't over cook the tilapia. Most people do. It cooks quick.

I'm starving now.

got it - drink, don't over cook tilapia, drink wine, sautee cauliflower, drink wine...

I gotta tell you this one real quick. My boss and I have the same dilemna at times where we have to run home at lunch to let the dogs out. I said to her yesterday (knowing that it was one of those days for both of us) "does it ever hit you that you just want to stay home and drink a glass or two of wine and then take off the rest of the day". Guess who took off a half day today....

Ok - ciao ya'll
