Drummer Mitch Mitchell died this morning. He played with Noel Redding and Jimi Hendrix. A bit before my musical time I still loved their music. He was an incredible drummer. Check out his music on youtube.

Sad. Another great musician has moved on to that great symphony in the clouds. He was way too good and young to go, but I suspect and hope he is providing percussion to my singing and piano playing mother.

Well Annie, the music was right in my time. I remember coming back from California between my junior and senior year in high school, and buying both Experience and Cheap Thrills by Big Brother and the Holding Company. Up until this time, I had kind of been a Motown/R&B music guy, but these two records, along with the time, changed my whole genre in music. My personal favorites of Jimmi will always be "Hey Joe" and "Voodo Child."

Thanks Michael and Jim for sharing. I had a friend who was really into Hendrix because of his big brothers. All Along The Watchtower was my personal anthem for many year..it still resonates something deep inside...So many people actually covered this Dylan original. Jimster, I think we need to sip some wine you me and Kathy and talk story/music story in Dec.

XO

"Ah..move over rover & let Jimmy take over"..
They really were a great group which let an indeligible mark on classic rock. Fond memories; and that's saying something for the 60's :-)

i never had the opportunity to see jimi live. i did see janis and big brother and the holding company live in cleveland in october 1968, a few weeks before i went into the navy. blood sweat and tears opened for them. i saw big brother and the holding company again this past summer in cuyahoga falls ohio (hometown of crissy hynde)...there are still a few of the original members performing. mary bridget davies is doing their lead singing now and is almost as good as janis. mary bridget won a tony award for playing janis in the broadway production of Love Janis.

my friend ron has been a drummer since the 60's...i'll have to pass on the news about mitch.

one of my favorite hendrix songs was "all along the watchtower"

I just saw the "Hendrix Experience" at the Tower Theatre in Philly two weeks ago. Mitch sat in on several songs with the likes of Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Eric Johnson to name a few. Incredible show, closed my eyes and Jimi was there, sad Mitch is gone...

Will I live tomorrow...I just can't say....
