It's Guy Fawkes Night in Britain.

I remembered! Any plans for those across the pond?

Here's a little part of the rhyme

“Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.”

Okay maybe I'm reading too much into this but I'm confused....

so the day is named after the bad guy who planned to blow up Parliment but failed??

Shouldn't the day be named after the dudes who stopped it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to hang out by the firepit tonight in the name of fun :-)

Hi Fawkes,

Guy was a Catholic and Britain had started its own version of Christian faith with our king at the head of the church rather than the Pope and Catholics were being persecuted.

On this day in 1605 Guy and 12 other Catholic conspirators tried to blow up the houses of Parliament and the King. The plot was hatched at Pub 6 miles from were we live (We took Jake and Linda there a few years ago). The plot failed and the plotters (those caught) were put to a slow and painful death

The phrase 'remember remember the 5th of November' (which evolved into a nursery rhyme) was to warn others of the fate that Guy and the conspirators faced. Basically they were hung drawn and quartered and their remains displayed as a warning to others.

This held back the Catholic faith in the UK for over 200 years.

The fireworks are going off now, but not as loud or as many as in Bonaire at New Years.

We are waiting for a lull in the noise to take our English Pointers Bosun and Paddy for their evening walk.

PS well done Obama..

Well we made it. Our eldest dog for the first time was not reacting to the bangs (15 years in 10 days time) and probably can't hear as well as before. The pup was fine until we approached home and World War three erupted next door with multiple salvos and flares, but still very calm apart from that.
