Good Morning Donna, Eileen, Judy and all who stop in!

Rain came back last night really strong and just when I thought it was all over, power went out for a while, so clocks here this morning were all flashing. But good news is: It's not raining today! Sun may even come out in a little while. Life is good.

Donna, thanks for starting this thread. Don't you just love this fall weather?

Eileen, as much as we don't like watching our babies grow up, enjoy your day with Rikester and Keddlebug. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Judy, is it sunny down your way?

Debbie, happy to read that you folks will get something from FEMA.

Freddie, OKAY, I AM AWAKE!!! WOO-HOO, I would love some of your SG and eggs!!! If I eat all my breakfast, can I have some pie!!! MMMMMMMMM diner pie, just bring me some coffee and put the pie (whole pie) right on the counter in front of me - STAT!!! Guarantee you won't have to wash the pan when I am done:-):-):-)

OK, I'm sitting here w/ my son, Rafe. He had his wisdom teeth pulled (had to cut the jaw bone to get them out) on Thursday evening. His face is so swollen and he's in so much pain. He's sitting here w/ ice packs on his face. WELL, his father took him to school today saying that he needs an education more than rest and ice. WELL, Rafe called me to come get him from school. I have a feeling that I am going to catch a ration of ****!! But I feel that my son doesn't need to be there today, he needs to be here, w/ ice and resting. Ohhhhhh, I'm nervous!!! I don't do confrontation well and I think I just stepped in it. But, he is MY son and as his MOM I think I did the right thing...."Big Daddy" is a screamer and I'm not looking forward to that!!!

Thank you for your thoughts for Rafe, but what about ME???? I'm in TROUBLE!!! Once "Big Daddy" finds out that Rafe isn't at school, I'm history!!! He doesn't care what is going on, Rafe MUST be at school!!!! Or he has to get rid of his dog, or he can't go to SC hunting, or he has to get rid of his truck....it goes on and on.
Well, my son is laying on the couch w/ ice packs on his face, he's having some soup. He's right where he needs to be.
Can yall tell I'm feeling guilty and scared??? When he called I didn't know what to do!! I think I did the right thing. I just don't know how to make HIM believe this w/ out getting screamed at...I don't handle that well.

Morning, buddies!

BH, I will have Crown, my friend!!! I will have Crown today. I did the deed and it hurt :-( Taking away someone's livlihood is painful and never easy.

It's the right thing for my company and it's the right thing for this person. She's 23, immature, on probation, on restricted license, lives at home and needs growth. This could be the slap in the face that she needed?
I reached a point where paying her to sit in her office on Myspace, FB, and doing community college homework was just not fair! I turned a blind eye for a very long time but no more as we need to continue to grow and we couldn't do it with unmotivated people on the team.
We are a small business and a close TEAM; we each share the load.
Not easy as she is a friend but easy because I know it's the right thing!

OK, rant off! Thank you guys for the hugs, prayers and good thoughts. I felt them this morning, indeed!

Is IT TIME YET!??!??!!

Oh, thank you BC!!!! I needed someone to tell me I've done the right thing!! I just talked to my mama, and she said the same thing you said. She knows what I've had to put up w/ in the past, and what Rafe puts up w/ everyday!! It's not right. But, thank you!!!!:-)

PS, just tell Big Daddy that YOU ARE THE MOMMY and what you say goes!!! You made an executive decision and it stands. He will survive; Rafe that is. He does need to rest and get the swelling and pain down.

BIG hugs to him and to you. Go get 'em LOL!

Kobi, Hugs to you, you had to do something that needed to be done, but still hard nonetheless.

PegiSue, Just try to stop me when one of my kids are in pain and swollen from doing the right thing. You did the right thing, Mom! No brainer to me. Your son called you for help and you simply did what any mother would do. His dad can just chill out somewhere else till Rafe is better! Rafe needs some TLC and time to heal. What he had done is extremely painful, I had that done, no way should he have been in school. Just what was his father thinking? You can always get homework sent home or by computer from his teachers, tell Dad that. I am sure the school will be happy to work something out due to his surgery. That should keep Dad at bay for a while so Rafe can heal with Mom's TLC. :-)
Oh, and I do like the Tom's idea of a bull horn too! LOL!

I know I should have more faith in myself about things, but anything to do with HIM, I just get scared! I'm over it. I like the bull horn idea!! Bet he'd hear me when I say things that have to do w/ my child!!!
Rafe wanted to go back to school. It looks like rain and his dad picks him up if it's raining. So, back he went. He at least sat w/ ice packs on for 4 hours and had some soup. He said it felt better, so.... He's like me, anything to avoid the confrontation... That's sad. Maybe he'll come back to living w/ me. It's quiet and there's no yelling. He likes that.:-)

Sorry for all the heavy stuff, but I was freakin' and needed yall...Thanks!!:-)

Morning!!!!
Kobi, you did the right thing all around. You're a good steward of your company and it's employees.
PS, is it possible that Rafe might have an impacted tooth? I know when I had my wisdom teeth extracted I had to go back twice to get the dressing removed and replaced. Man that was some kind of painful. You might want to call the surgeon just to make sure he doesn't need to be checked.
Donna, hope your day at work goes better.

From the school point of view, I am guessing that they would not ring you to take your son home unless they thought it was necessary, Pegi Sue. You would not believe the language used in my team about parents who send their kids when it is obvious they should not be at school. Sending sick kids to school is as bad as keeping them off for no good reason.
I went back to the docs this morning and he says I can fly so Bonaire here we come. However there is still no positive news one way or another about the ear drum so diving is still a big ??????

Jerry it's coming back, only down 302 now.

Pegi Sue you did the right thing.

Kobi, let me tell you a story from my early adult life. I was living at home, going to community college, working a job and engaged. It was a Friday, I woke up and had an argument with my folks and they decided I needed to move out. I went to work and at the end of the day my boss said it was my last day. I had an argument with my girl friend and she decided she did not love me and was going home to mom and dad. I went to college that night and after class got into my car and it would not start. I had to call my dad to come get me.

That all happened in one day and in that order.

Oh, the next day, my parents decided they only wanted rent. I found another job. My girlfriend decided she still loved me and my car would not start because it was in drive.

Cecil, that story brings back lots of teen-age memories.

Dealing with a lot of ones with my middle one in Texas right now, wow!, the drama, the problems, some real, some just got compounded and then some from lack of time management, all jellied rolled up to make one stressed out college student. Add living through a national disaster called Ike, moving 4 times this past month and Yowza, she's like, well, can't say it here, but I have been busy having to really try to neutralize all the fronts before they get any worst. I'd say a week or two more, sparing no other natural disasters, she should be fine.

Just got done with prepping dinner, got two big racks of baby back ribs, made a nice rub for them, wrapped them up airtight in some foil and all I have to do is bake them up, then out on the grill for a few minutes to sear in the flavor when dinner rolls around, salad all made, so free to do other stuff for a while. Thinking maybe a baked potatoe on the side.

Well, some of us are talkers and some of us are lurkers. I've been lurkin' for too long. Looks like I've missed out on a whole lot.

PS, I agree with everyone else. Rafe should be at home. Been there, done that, never want to go through it again (of course, now that they're out I won't have to). Tell Rafe I know what he's going through.

Debbie, sounds like you've been going through some tough times. Lots of hugs to you.

Kobi, I agree. Firing someone is never easy. Had an office administrator once who spent more time in the bathroom primping than she did at her desk. Plus she was not doing her job to the best of her ability--which she did have. She was great when she was working. But when I caught her lying about some work she had finished and I found the work in her bottom drawer not even started, I decided that was the last straw. Hopefully, she's grown up a bit (this was at least 10 years ago). But its always difficult to fire someone.

Debbie, you think you've got rain? Its been raining almost all summer here. Two weeks of sun in May and a stray day here and there. Otherwise, rain. Supposed to get between 3 to 3.5 inches today.

Fortunately (or not, depends on how you look at it), I got some sun this summer. Spent 2.5 months driving down to Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho and back. Nothing but sunshine. The bad thing was the temp. Anywhere from the mid-90s to 107, except for two weeks in the California mountains. Too hot for this Alaskan boy.

Better get myself busy. Have a nice day, everyone.

Ouch Jerry... just heard the Bail Out bill was rejected in the House... the DOW is down 600pts. Someone please make sure all of Jerry's windows are closed and no sharp objects are near :-(

AK Dan, so very nice to see you :-)

I had to fire a girl who I used to drive to and from work. She was a lovely woman, who was living in a shelter with 2 young children after fleeing an abusive husband. She didn't speak English as a first language but sincerely tried hard. She was just over her head and had too much on her plate. I cried when I had to fire her but in the end, it was the best thing. The person we hired in her place was perfect (even down to his name: Bob and the business was Bob's Glass!). The girl I fired ended up getting a scholarship to the comm college and getting a GREAT job that could really mentor her. She's doing wonderfully and is such a role model to others in the community.

THANKS TARA:-)

I had to call G to find out what this meant for us. He's in FINANCING. That doesn't exist anymore... It will take at least 10 years for our house to be worth what we owe on it. I think it's time to rent a nice little apartment near my mom. Plant a garden and raise a cow.

Okay ya'll look at the positive side of this:::

This is an adjustment
Over inflated home prices
CEO's running down companies for the money
People laid off to turn a buck
Yeah we will pay for it now but, less our kids will pay
My retirement won't be good but, I'll get by (I like taters and beans)
My 401K got trashed by Worldcom so I already felt the kick I'm moving on
My house is worth way less but, it really may be back to what it is really worth.
Credit is way tight but, maybe we need to remember what no meant...and folks will quit saying "Charge It"
So I keep my 95 Ford Ranger a few more years it's a good truck

It's sad, It's wrong, It's hard but maybe just maybe it's the wake up call we need.

We Will Make It Through This

"It's All Good" as long as we don't lose sight of the important things.

Just My Two Cents(valued now at .96)

Soap Box Time::::

Ya'll I grew up in a two bedroom house...4 rooms and one small bathroom...until I was 12 years old I shared a 8'X 9' bedroom with a brother and two sisters...two sets of bunk beds...and I guess you would say I didn't live on the right side of the tracks...I watched my dad work two sometimes three jobs to make it....days at Levi's, nights on the docks of a trucking company, weekend umpire for 5 dollars a game....I had my first job at 11 hanging up coats at the boys club for .50 cents an hour and handing out baskets for the folks going swimming to put their clothes in....hamburger twice a week with taters and beans or mac with tomatoes and rice most nights (I will not eat rice to this day)....so I know what hard feels like something most kids in our time will never know (I hope)...I got a whole lot more cause those were some of the good times....and I knew folks that had it worse so pardon me if I feel like things are not that bad they are but, if that means I work a little harder, spend a little less, or miss a road trip oh well....

I have my family and my loved ones....all the way to grand-nieces and nephews that run to hug Uncle Chuck when I show up...friends I can call that will not ask questions until after the fact

And I got BT folks that put up with me.

So the way I look at it that sunshine looked pretty good this morning.

So PS tell him your a grown woman and able to make choices!!!!
Jerry if you need to borrow a few bucks let me know!!!!!
Debbie tell the folks at work to get over it!!!!(save us a few ribs)
AK Dan Glad you came out from lurking!!!!
Cecil I hope folks got your inside meaning with your story(I think I did)!!!!
Bettie Taking in your friend shows you get it!!!
And Beau your feet still smell funny!!!!!!

RANT OFF!!!!

KOBI BREAK OUT THE CROWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:-) You guys are A-OK!

Busy day for you here. Welcome back AK Dan!

Pegi Sue and Kobi - Congratulations on putting on your big girl panties (as Cynde would say), and doing what you knew you had to do.

BH - I'd like to give you a run for your money on the growing up poor side...... Eleven kids in 3 bedrooms, the folks turned the dining room into theirs'! And yes, one bathroom. How ever did we make it through? But I learned a whole lot more about getting by than most young people today! I could go back to beanie weinies once a week, but sure don't want to.

My bank went under Friday, another today...... Crash, boom, bam. But we're survivors! And we do have each other.

Hang in there everyone! Hugs to all.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!! I am so thankful that you are out there. It makes my heart feel good to know you're only a few keystrokes away or a few number on the phone! Seriously!!!

I am home; heavy heart and all but I'm home for the day. Rough Monday and I just had a REALLY nice cry by myself here on the couch. Crying about the person who's life I changed today. Maybe for the better? Maybe not?
Crying about my stocks and 401K. Crying because I know I am blessed and that Rob and I will be OK. We have so much to be thankful for and we will get through all of this.

Wow, can't believe I just aired all that here! Sometimes a good cry it just what the doctor ordered; there's nothing wrong with it. I just can't see the keyboard right now :-(
