We were driving home after diving at Haigh Quarry, when we noticed the ... nitrox truck in front of us.

Nitrox truck.

For those of you not familiar with the Haigh Quarry: picture Bari reef on a sunny day, with 100+ feet visibility, and a perfect 83F water all the way down the column.

Hold this picture for a moment. Now, think of the exactly opposite conditions, and you've got Haigh. Nonetheless Haigh is a convenient and decent place to dive near Chicago.

(Today's conditions: viz 20, surface 71F, @30ft 61F, @60ft 56F).

Leo, I have a quarry pretty close to us that is the same way.. Supposed to go dive there tomorrow.. The thermoclines are brutal in a 3m and you have to watch out for these little buggers.. They like to stalk you from behind and then bite your ears

killer perch

Timmy, outstanding!

Kimo, the thermoclines today were tolerable in a 3mm core and a 7mm suit, with gloves and hood. I was test driving the exposure gear to see if I could dive the Bonne Terre mine without a drysuit. It felt quite doable.

As for the bluegills ... what can you do. Cover up as much of your skin as you can and hope that they won't go for whatever skin is exposed between the mouthpiece and the bottom of your mask (a.k.a. upper lip).
