I'll share a story Miss Bubbles, our 9 month old Yorkie child, got a letter from the City Treasurer's office. Seems she hasn't paid for her dog license. We are owned by three Yorkie girls at present.

I called and ask for the treasurer. He was a nice guy and shared the "law" with me. I politely told him she hasn't paid and wasn't gonna pay She's not a dog! She's PS's daughter LOL!

Anyhoo, I'm miffed as it's a new law here in Virginia. Vet's must submit names of clients who have CANINES who are administered a rabies vaccine. That triggers the letter if you have NOT paid for the license. They are singling out CANINES and NOT felines and this is where I have a problemo. Should be fair across the board. Hopefully this isn't offending anyone as that's not my intention. I know we have many BT cat/dog lovers!

I've bucked that license system for 12 years now and never purchased them for any of our girls! Not sure I can fight town hall though; don't you usually lose!?!?

Kobi - that's a bummer... I agree with you, cats should be licensed too. There are more cases of rabies in cats in the US each year than dogs. You CAN fight city hall, but I think you're right... you usually lose.

Captain Bess Rackham......in just this past month or so, our Emergency Room has had to begin the Rabies injection series on 3 different people for various animal related injuries. None of which they could identify whether the animal was either sick or had recieved the rabies vaccination. (not all were dogs)

my guess is that is also why they make dogs be registered and not cats.....the majority of cat bite injuries are to the owner and are USUALLY not as severe, but not so much with dogs..

I found an article that is out of Leonardtown (CA?) with 14 cases...hmm interesting huh.
The area I live in has Rabies clinics where they set up and you drive through, pay 5 bucks, never have to get your animals out of the car..good deal. People still don't do it though.

Rabies is a serious issue, especially east of the Mississippi. Several states are going so far as to poison wild animals that are rabies vectored species. This is not to be played with. I'm in a county with no reported rabies, but all of the surrounding counties have reported it in various species: foxes, bats, and domestic dogs. My state will not let rehabbers legally assist species that are rabies vectored. It is a growing problem as people do not vaccinate their animals. Hello Tribs, You are right about rabies, we are very blessed or lucky that one of our local vets travels around several counties every spring giving rabies, heart worms and other type shots to all dogs and cats that you bring to him for almost nothing maybe $8 to $10 per animal. As of right now I do not know of any out breaks in Arkansas, but it is best not to chance it.

I am one of those owners, though, that DOES vaccinate their animals! We do rabies, for sure, but am soon nixing the other boosters, etc. that are recommended.
I'm just miffed that they aren't fair across the board with canine and feline license requirements in my state/county. Why single my girls out? Sad thing is, I'm in the wrong and have been for 12 years by not buying the license Ought to keep my mouth shut in case they try to make me backpay them LOL! OYE....then I will need bail moolah. As far as that gator meat it's hard to grill you really have to tenderize it....but, sometimes it does come back to bite you.....gators is tough.

Kobi thanks for the update on the movie, and You are right if they make you tag your babe's they should make others tag their kitty's too. Especially cats they roam around and get into alot more stuff then dogs do.

And thank to all of you for your support to our son and the other troops, they really need it right now.
