"What Was Lost" Can't remember the author. A very funny, very sad tale of how a little girl came to disappear, what led up to it, and, finally, what happened.

"The Short, Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao" by Junot Diaz. Also very funny and tragic. A history of the Dominican Republic under Trujillo, and the diaspora's life in the U.S., told as a family history. Off the chart good.

"Yes: 50 Scientifically Proven ways to be Persuasive" by Robert Cialdini. It's written almost as a statistical study, which I like. I'm SUCH a pushover....I thought it might do me some good...

You???.

I'm very lost as I can't read anymore. Stuck between reading glasses (which give me a headache) and better than fantastic distance vision....I can see forever, just not in front of my face!

I had an eye exam last Saturday, and basically, my only choice is to run around (like I have been doing) with 1.75 reading glasses (up from 1.25) hanging off my nose like a librarian - look down for close - up for distance. OF COURSE they could give me some no line bifocals where the top part is glass, for $300, no thanks. I would love to read again. I was always a veracious reader, and I only stopped when we moved to FL and it became impossible to read with reading glasses without a big headache. 3 years and I haven't read a single book. That's shameful.

Carole, I don't know her stuff....I'll check it out!

Kathy, my dear, we're all in the same boat, I thing. Now I either have the granny glasses to read, or, more likely, read in bed when I'm not wearing my contacts.

Oh, I finished the last of the Christopher Moore stuff.....DUDE, WRITE FASTER!!!

Oops....I meant "Small Sacrifices"...duh! Ann does true crime books. Retired detective and a great writer. Her book on Ted Bundy was gripping...she had been working with him (volunteer clinic) and did not even realize it was him until later on.

My eyes are about the same. Need glasses for distance but so far they are pretty much OK for reading but that is changing recently. I do have tri-focals (no lines) but I can't read with them. Mostly used for distance only and don't utilize the areas for computer screen reading and book reading. cb

I've actually got 3 going -- no wonder I'm so frazzled :-)
Jimmy Buffett's Swine Not this one is for light reading - not nearly as good as his past books - not set on the water.
Barack Obama's Dreams from my Father I'm really digging this one, I always keep a book with me so that lines are never a Negative thing instead it's ALL GOOD!!!
John Burdett Bangkok 8 this one my neighbor gave me but I haven't really dug into it much yet.

Kathy
Spring for the 300 bucks! Get the progressive lenses. You can get them tinted and look like a movie star. Why give up something you love so much. Even at my age my vision is basically like yours, but after trying half glasses, taking the glasses off and on and readers I finally surrendered and got the progressive glasses. Now I have good vision all the time and best of all nothing to carry around or find a place to keep.

I read 2 books while I was in Bonaire this summer:
"Blown Away" and "You Can't Blow Home Again", both by Herb Payson...they are true adventures of a family that leaves the establishment, buys a sailboat and sails the South Pacific. Really good story!

I am reading "The Heroin Diaries" by Nikki Sixx. A pretty good read. I read Bangkok 8 and loved it!
