Last Thursday, Art and myself did an evening dive at the Nubble it was one of those zen kind-of dives and about as good as it get around here.

We wandered up to York beach after work and managed to gear up and enter the water right at dusk. Last sight before submerging.

Nubble at dusk

We headed across a sand patch and the vis was pretty bad but as we got to the other side it had clear quite a bit. And there sitting on top a rock was this guy.

Sea Raven

The lobsta's were all out and looking for a diver to nibble on.

Lobsta

We wandered out along the wall peeking into all the holes. We saw several of this fish, I have no idea of an ID.

I keep an eye on you

All to soon we headed back and saw this guy on another rock.

Sea Raven 2

At one point I was playing with a baby lobster and for some reason one fin would not work. I then realized it was up in the air and my kick efficiency was greatly decreased. One of the weird things about night dives, it's hard to see the surface.

Cecil - what wonderful pictures!! That Sea Raven is quite stunning in color. And I love the above water shot. I really miss New England.

Then on Saturday we went out on Mark's boat in Portsmouth Harbor. We went past the old Naval Prison.

Prison

Many sad sailors spent time there.

Up the river past the town of Portsmouth.

We caught a mooring up in Great Bay. The weekend warriors were getting in some flight time.

After a bit we headed back to the dock and had a great dinner while this was occurring.

Wow, dead flat calm at Nubble! That's rare... I think your unidentified fish is a rock gunnel. Sort of eel-ish, about 4-6" long?
