Hey Elaine,

Terry and I were there in 2004 or 2005. We had a wonderful week at the Divi Flamingo which is no longer there, but I don't know what happened to it. We did lots of wall diving and hopped over to Little Cayman for a few dives. I don't think there's any shore diving on Brac, but I might be mistaken on that. We had a great time there and hope your husbands coworker has a great time.

elaine - I've been to Little Cayman twice and we hopped over to Cayman Brac to dive "the wreck". It's VERY laid back if I recall and loads of wall diving. It's not Bonaire but it is pretty cool. The diving was really cool and the walls were incredible.

Elaine: My advice (if sea conditions permit) is to take the dive boat over to Little Cayman & dive Bloody Bay Wall. I think Little Cayman has far better diving.

Elaine, We've been to Grand Cayman twice, there is limited shore diving there but boat diving is better. Beautiful Island, nice people, great walls, lots of marine life. Weather & water about same as Bonaire.

Elaine,
We used Treasure Island Divers. They had great DM's and the boats are set up so there is a space between your two tank spots - elbow room. We also went to Dive Tec by the turtle farm for a "shore dive". I highly recommend they go there for an afternoon and a couple of night dives. The mini walls at that location are spectacular at night.

We are on Grand Cayman right now - we are staying on the east end at Compass Point and diving with Ocean Frontiers. This end of the island is quiet and remote from the built-up 7-mile beach area. We stayed there once a number of years back and would never do it again. Felt like South Florida.

Dive op here is excellent and East End diving is better. We are diving on a large catamaran, 12 divers, 2 DM's in the water for each dive, go with the group or on your own. No limit on bottom time, dive your computer and back in the boat with 500 PSI. Most people choose to go with the group dive. The diving is very different from Bonaire. Mini-canyons, swim-throughs, very complex topography and you'd miss alot on your own.

Can't tell you anything about renting a house/villa. We have a very nice 1br condo, they have 2 BR units too.

Not alot of restaurants on the East End. We hit the grocery store on the way here. (Foster's - like an upscale U.S. chain supermarket) and stocked up. There are a handful of places including some inexpensive places serving local food.

Tell your friends to see the botanical gardens. Went today, absolutely beautiful. They have pictures in the visitor's center of what it looked like after Ivan went through in '04. It's amazing how fast things grow back in the tropics.
