My nephew Jonathan, a relatively healthy 24 year old, has been hospitalized for the past 11 days with WEGENERS GRANULOMATOSIS. He's been at the local hospital in New London, CT, but they decided today to transfer him to Yale / New Haven because his kidney numbers are still going down. My sister said they do not want to wait until it is in crisis mode….(or something like that) apparently they need to watch him 24/7 and L & M can’t or is not as equipped as Yale.

Are any of our medical readers familiar with this disease, and can shed some light on the treatment? I did google it, and it sounds like recovery will take months. It's scary to think that after 11 days, they still aren't getting the best of it.

:-(

I will be sending healing prayers. Reading on MedicineNet about this disease seems scary. Question is how long did it take them to diagnose. It looks like it would take at least a few days or more to get the diagnosis correct in the first place. Maybe L&M realized that they didn't really have the kind of facility or equipment or medicine needed and Yale/NewHaven would.

Hugs to you Gail and to your family.

Thanks all. Mo - it took several days to diagnose. Initially they were looking at Lyme's disease, then TB, and then on to vasculitis.... it was about a week when they came up with W G. From all of the web sites, it sounds like he'll have a rough road ahead of him.
