Hi Cynde.

Good pics. I've heard it as you can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd, but who's counting. We have some in TN. - beautiful creatures. Good tasting steaks too! What is the edifice in the 3rd. pic?

Brian.

"Have you ever HERD a buffalo RING?"

Cynde - beautiful pix! The sky is gorgeous. So strange to see an alien shape on the horizon - bison? On an island. Thanks for sharing your SoCal lifestyle with us boring folk on the right coast!

brian and rusty, for the life of me i couldn't figure out if it was buffalo herd, or rink, or ring from that roger miller song...driving home i reasured myself that it probably was herd! rusty, no rifle, i was sitting on the edge of the jeep and holding onto the roll bar thingy! funny, it does look like a rifle.

hollywierd brought the buffs over in the 40's to make the movie, someone last night said it was mutiny on the bounty, but i'm not sure about that. will have to look it up again.

brian, that edifice is "the casino." it was built as a ballroom, party palace (no gambling though)...in the early 19..somethings...again, forget the date. at the edge of the point is where the underwater diving park is...oh, you can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd...you have both aged yourself now by remenbering that song!

Looks like paradise! And look - the beach has even more pebbles than Jake's beachfront! I remember when I lived in Winter Park FLA - I couldn't find even ONE rock to put in my turtle's aquarium - had to settle for a flower pot.

catalina in the early days (early 1900's) actually had quite a bit of beach front, but then they built the front buildings on most of the sand area. there is one little strip on the board walk in the city of avalon, and then descanso beach on the side of the casino where i took the pic (actually behind me) that has a good size beach with chairs, beach bar, all that. the rest is mostly rock.

Nice shots, Cynde! Please tell me what the temperature was outside the day you had your parka on?? I always bust my Left Coast friends when they think it is "cold" outside and bundle up to stay warm! LOL!! I recall my first trip to LA back in 1969 or 1970 for Christmas at my boyfriend's place in Glendale...I got off the plane and it was 55 degrees and threw off my coat, etc. Everyone else was dressed for sub-zero weather in coats, hats, gloves, boots..you name it!! I laughed and laughed and told them they did not have a "clue' as to what really cold weather was...I guess the blood thins out a lot, eh??!! I was in shorts and T shirts while they were freezing! It did get back into the seventies shortly after that, tho. I love that type of weather...cool at night and warm during the day...ah...West/Left Coast weather and National Geograhic Blue skies! Used to love camping out in the Angeles National Forest and out in the desert in the dead of winter out there, too. Just love it. Carole

carol, yes, i'm busted...must have been a chilling 50-55 degrees!..had my pink gloves on too! lol! i lived in washington dc for a period back in my "first marriage."...came from so ca, didn't have a real "jacket." i remember one march, it was a balmy 32 degrees with NO WIND CHILL!!! got my lounger out, bikini and layed out in the backyard (snow was on the ground)...felt like it was 100! however, now that i have been back on the left coast for the last 17 years, i once again have become a "whimp."
