this is a tad unerving. Granted, there were several boats taking part in a fishing tourney...but yikes! I guess the other good thing is it was on the back side of the island?

So there are no great whites off the coast of California! They were there in the earlly 60ies! This proves they are still hanging around... Ron

No kidding Rosanne!

Ron, we have known they were there, San Diego has shark dives, and Jake even did one a few years ago. It is just RARE to have a sighting like this, or encounter. I guess there was also a large shark that followed the Dana Point outriggers off laguna beach over the weekend...reminding me a bit too much of the 70s when Jaws came out...we didn't go in the water that whole summer! lol!

BC, Wow! I saw Jaws when I was a teen and haven't been the same since. Wish I never saw that darn movie. Scary story indeed about that women, glad it end happily.

I belong to a site called "Divebums", a few years ago they posted a listing of all shark attacks dating back to 1927. As I remember the listing this is not the first time sharks have attacked Kayaks.
It listed how many scuba divers had been attacked, I believe the # was 12, ten of 12 were on the surface [wearing those cute little black wetsuits] while the other two were spear fishing.
I know I saved the file which was compiled by the state of California--I'm looking for it right now!
