LOL...well I was just sitting here thinking...mind wandered off after seeing some photos off undiscovered tribes photographed from a small palne over Acre, Brazil.

And I was thinking about how weird that must have appeared to them.

Then I started thinking about the distance from these neolithic folks to us in generational time.

So if the average female through the centuries began birthing from say 15 to old age...which was 35 for the last few millenium then the average age was 25.

Or about 4 generations per century.

And if neolithic times for the majority was about say 20,000 BC....thats 220 centuries ago.

So the distance between a fellow named Urg and say Bill Gates is approximately 880 copulations.

:-)

Actually I did have a question and thought I would come to my fellow well traveled friends.

Seeing as my 4 year old packing list is still be posted here as the de facto Bonaire trip list of all that you need. (No underwear on the plane, bring cookies for Micheal and don't forget the Mr. Piggy BBQ apron.)

The question is:

Son Joey (who some of you know) is debarking for central and eastern Europe for the summer (after graduating from Tech - all very smarted up now), and Eva wants him to have a cell phone she can call at any time, anywhere (taking his temperature through the phone not mandatory - but would be a great feature)

So..Ladies and gentlemen ....what suggest you?

Oh I forgot to mention...Joe will take a detour and wander through Amsterdam. Mikeal, Bob, Bart is Margrite still there and Jon and Jos?

Oh and Mikeal...kiss Esther for me...can't believe she agreed to marry you (might need to take her temperature)

Thats it...lights out till tomorrow.

Wally, you are cracking me up! The cell phone thingy, Verizon has the best in my opinion and great all around service. You may have to shop around for one that takes temperature and transmits data back to Eva but I bet you can find one :-)

About that copulation tabulation, Are you sure? Your calculations seem a bit off to me.

Hi Wally, Hi Eva,
Good to hear from you!

Martin might know -- he knows all about portable gadgets. Angela might know too.

Have a great time Joe!

Nice review of the generational gap between neolithic man and BG Wally...and, yeah, the rest of us.
Now to the travel and phone question.....I have been able to get through to the U.S. from Fiji and Bon with excellent reception using the basic international service that ATT offers...however, it runs $3.50 a minute or so. For a higher monthly fee, it is less per minute...just haven't been gone long enough to make that switch up worth it...there's my 2 cents...or should I say my $100 overseas airtime charges....Hi to Eva! And Joey! :-)

The phone should be able to work with the 900 and 1800 band (I think), the US is in a different range. So either a triple or quad band phone should do the rick (or if Eva really wants to be able to talk to him, no matter what, get him a satellite phone... :-) )

Hi Everybody..I was just wondering who is the big phone company sorta up the middle. The guys (Joey and his cousin Kenny) both graduated this spring. Their Aunt Tiki is a Navel Commander stationed in Rome. She stang for air fare as a grad gift.

I think the general route is Rome then North, into Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, then double back to Poland, Estonia, Croatia and generally southerly into Greece and back to Italy. Not sure if their plans are anymore concrete then hostel guide, rail pass and an old folding map. I believe they plan on taking 1 small back pack each...so light travel.

His phone is a dual band
Technology: 1xRTT/EVDO
Frequency: CDMA 1900 & 800 MHz

He can work it out...that's all the thinking I can add.

Hey Martin...you still in Rotterdam?

Wally, you sometimes just have to have the phone sim card activated for international use. It's free to do so, just ask.

The frequencies could be correct, don't know for sure (After a 24-hour dive marathon my brain is just a bit fried...)

Rotterdam is still my base... :-)

Just did an internet search. Can rent a 160 country world cell for like $129 for 7 weeks. Inbound is free so Eva can call till his batteries go dead...lol
Simple solution.

Our Alltel cells are wrong frequecy and locked...typical bogus USA Cell BS
