Hi all

I just wanted to say hello from Iceland. I am at this forum because I am starting a plan to hopefully move to Bonaire. If all the requirements are met, mostly the one about Bonaire hopefully becomes part of EU. I hope to move to Bonaire sometimes in 2 to 3 years time.

I am from Iceland, but I am looking for nice island with tropical climate to live in. I live on social security because of few flaws that I have.

I am interested in earthquakes, volcanoes, space (planets, galaxies) and other things. I am really good at computers and other electronics (been studying Bonaire power supply system voltage now for an instance, part of my basic research).

I hope I can move there, the place looks nice. But I am not a fan of really big populations. I don't like big cities.

Welcome Jon! I've never been to Bonaire, but my daughter studied abroad there last fall. She loved it and it's a gorgeous place. Hope you like heat, though!!

Welcome to BT Jon. It is important to remember that Bonaire is three miles from the sun (5 kilometers). You do not say if you are a diver, if not you might want to get certified. As for moving you should first plan an extended stay on Bonaire to see if it's right for you.

You should also check out this site. Brad is on Bonaire and quite the astronomy nut.

Hey Jon, you came to the right place for your plans. Welcome :-)

I see you are interested in earthquakes and volcanoes also! Well.......
This is something which you won't find on Bonaire, but what I do hope is that you are, or will become, also interested in nature (especially; Bonaire's nature) Bonaire has a lot of it, underwater and above. In fact, Bonaire is world famous for its underwater life and scenery.
I live on Bonaire and really LOVE the place. I also do not like big crowds, must have lots of sun, warm weather and crystal clear waters and this little piece of paradise has that all.
I definitely agree with Cecil, if you are not a certified diver yet, get it done because the island's motto is: A Divers Paradise. And that it is.
I do not know how well traveled you are but coming from a northern country myself you might want to consider enjoying a longer vacation here first (again Cecil)to see if you like to be so close to the sun.
If you after that decide to move here and you need any help, please do not hesitate to ask me, I would gladly help. Keep in mind that even when Bonaire is becoming a Dutch county, it still does not mean that immigration will be easy. People want to move to Bonaire because it is so nice and quiet but they forget that when everybody does that it will be not so nice and quiet anymore :-(
Anyway, I do hope that Bonaire is able to welcome you and you will enjoy this island as much as I do :-)))))))))))))

Jon, welcome to Bonaire Talk:-)welcome to bonaire talk

I think Cecil is incorrect, bonaire is 3 feet from the sun...lol...seriously, both Cecil and Bette have a good idea about visiting Bonaire first for a couple of months to see if it is the right island for you. Some folks move there thinking it will be paradise, but find it's not their cup of tea.

keep us posted!

I have a icelandic drivers license, it is class B by the Icelandic/Euro standards.

I plan to go there sometimes in 2010, when I have the money to do so. At the moment I am in school in Iceland. I am going to finish that first. At current time I have only permission to stay there for 14 days. But that might change with the changes that are about to happen on the political level.

I did pick Bonaire exactly for the reason it doesn't have a volcano and is on relatively quiet place on the crust, but there are some really interesting volcanoes and fault lines nearby.

I also have interest in communications (mobile phones[GSM, CDMA], sat dishes, tv, radio and other related). I also am good with aquarium. Currently have have two aquarium in my apartment, one freshwater with apple snails (P.Diffusa) and fish, the second one is salt water aquarium, but that only has two snails in it and live rock. I dream about setting up reef aquarium one day.

I have it as rule to only buy from aquarium stores. If I collect something from nature it is only going to be from freshwater and only eggs, then only snail eggs. This rule is in place because I can infect a aquarium with something nasty things if I collect from nature.

But I plan to check the rules for aquarium in Bonaire before I get one if I ever manage to move over there.
