I'll try to get to the point as quickly as I can.

When we post pictures of ourselves, we generally choose ones that are flattering, right? Or we ask people to please not post THAT picture of us.

So when I see web cam pictures that are not so flattering with less than kind remarks attached I think to myself, OMG, what if ones of these shows up of me? I would be horrified. What if one of our BT family members that we don't know how they look gets posted and we write unflattering captions? Granted, I have giggled at many myself but the thought has crossed my mind that we may be offending someone who we communicate with on this board and are very nice people. Am I making any sense here??

You're not out on a limb sista' - I'm right there with ya. Cause it could have been me (at any weight point of my life), my hubby, my kids...any of us. You are correct and we appreciate you going out on the limb...so move over and make room for me. I'll bring the drinks.

I'll be the devil's advocate here. If you're really overweight and you wear a speedo to go swimming, you deserve whatever you get. :P

It's ok to be overweight. (I am)
It's (arguably) ok to wear a speedo. (I don't)
It's not okay to do both!!!! Please, won't somebody think of the children.

Matthew, I was not just referring to overweight people, A thin person can just as easily have a horrible photo taken! My point was although we may find the captions amusing I'm sure whomever the photo is will not.

As far as speedo's go, don't want to see ANY man in one! I find them offensive in a particular area....equal to "camel toe" on a woman. (am I gonna get slapped for saying that?) My eyes still hurt from the fishnet speedo thong I saw last year!

RosAnne, I am with you on this one. It is 'oh so easy' for somebody at a computer screen to type the unflattering remarks that would never be said to a person face to face.

I can remember at least once in the past when someone posed on the cams and got his feelings hurt by unkind comments.

Me, I wish I had the self confidence to just put on the speedo(or equivalent) and enjoy myself...I kind of admire the folks who do.

And the speedo thing is often a cultural difference, I think....

I know I've posted a lot of picture of people from the cams. I hope that none of comments have offended anyone, the subject or the viewer. I do try to keep it positive. And if I have offended anyone, I do apologize.

I agree in principle with what you are saying but would not it be even better if we could just laugh along and not get insulted. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would get insulted by comments make in jest. I also know there is a fine line between funny and derogatory and all to easy to cross.

Maybe I ask to much.

So it would seem for us posters to always pretend that the person we are commenting on is our mother/sister/father/brother/husband/wife/whatever.

I will try to be more conscientious. Thanks for bringing it up, RosAnne, as I/we sometimes tend to forget those images are people with feelings.

Cecil, I understand where you are coming from, but some of us have thicker skin than others and can laugh off many things.
I have a very off track sense of humor and find many things funny that others fail to see humor in but not everyone is like that. I brought this up because in my book cruel does not equal funny.
Speaking from my heart, I would be hurt by some of the comments that have been written had they been written about me.

I know some of you might take offense to what I'm about to say, but that alright.

If you are fat big large what ever you want to call it. I'm sorry but that's the way it is. You can try to lose it or hide it. I use to be skinny at one time but let good food get the best of me. So now I'm FAT LARGE BIG. I've heard it all, does it bother me NO because I know i'm this size and I can live with my choice. It just kills me when people get all bent out of shape because of there size. Hey people grow up and let the remarks slide off of you. I myself disarm people by openly talking about my size and will tell other large people the same. It's funny to watch people when they see me coming towards there seat in a airplane, then here a sigh of relief when I go by.

My size also has it's benefits you can see me on the cams easier also, so you don't have to guess who it is............. SO THERE!!!

PLUS THERE'S MORE TO HUG. RIGHT JERRY AND TOM!!!!!!!!

Sorry Patrick, I think you are missing my point. It truly was about being unkind/cruel and judging others NOT about how you look, it just was manifested in this way.
I agree, how awful it would be if we all looked alike but that really isn't what this is about. From what I hear you are a gentle, loving soul. You weren't described to me by what you looked like but who you where.
Jerry, my friend you didn't start this, it has been going on for a long time and it was a general statement not to anyone in particular. You know I love you and find you hilarious.

For the record, I am less than perfect, could lose a few pounds, have a big nose and look much better with clothes/makeup on but happy to be who I am!

I'm also trying to make a point about who and what we are. You have to be comfortable in your own skin and to let words harm you is silly to me. It really kills me when somebody acts like there a skinny person when in real life there not. You have to look at it from my side because I have been talked about and laugh at because of my size. If you let it hurt you. Then you have aloud them to do to you what they want......

Patrick, I understand now. I commend you on being able to handle this as you do, I'm not sure I could if I were in your position. But like you, I know exactly who and what I am.

I think Rosanne was referring to shots of folks we don't know that randomly appear on the cams in weird poses, that seemed funny, but to the person, may not seem funny.

Well I could see that happening a lot. I know when we stayed at Eden Beach, they did not tell us where the web cams were located. I always wondered how many people did NOT know they were being broadcasted live on the world wide web. I think that when one is on vacation, they tend to feel a bit of anonymity that they do not feel in their daily lives. I think knowing that they are in fact being watched might change some behavior - for the better or worse???? I guess that's another topic.

I blame on this due to all the stuff we see in the magazines all the computerized, digitally enhanced pics of movie stars and all those movie stars who opt for c/s and get a tummy tuck and starve themselves right after having a baby (very dangerous BTW). *SIGH* I've had 3 kiddos, my body ain't pretty, however, I see it as I have had 3 kids, something many people dream of. I lose my weight for my health, I would love to get plastic surgery but, $$$$, hey I have a sense of humour about it, so does hubby! We all make comments, myself included, I am human. I try not to, but, anyway...

I think we all make comments about anything about anything is what I meant. I hope people here know what I mean, I am sorry if I offended someone, 99.99% of the time I really do not care about appearences, personality comes first. But sometimes that 0.01% comes through.

Okay, I'll try and clarify a little better, it truly isn't about looks, although this is where most of the comments are centered. It really was about being considerate of others and putting yourself in their place. I love a good joke and spend much of my time smiling and laughing but when things get hurtful, insulting or derogatory it's not funny anymore.
I am not professing to be perfect either morally or physically but I pride myself on being respectful. Just asking others to do the same.
