It is a couple of weeks before we leave for our trip and I think I am getting ill.. It started this past Sunday while I was doing yard work. Kelly, my wife was laying by the pool while I was pulling out a few bushes that didn't make it through the winter. She was reading out loud to me about all the dive sites in our copy of BSDME that just came in the mail and that when it hit me.. My heart rate started speeding up, I couldn't keep my mind on what I was doing. The last few nights have been restless and while I'm tossing and turning, all I can think of is blowing air bubbles and tarpons stalking me on night dives.. My wife says it's nothing to worry about but it seems to be getting worse. I have heard you guys and gals speak of PBD but this really doesn't sound like the same symptons.. Is there help for me??

Jim, I am sorry to say you have chronic PBD (PRE-Bonaire Depression). There is no cure and insurance will not cover the expense of treatment, which happens to be extended periods of time diving Bonaire. Take care of yourself and once your treatment begins you will be feeling a whole lot better......until you have to return home:-(

Jim,

I refer to it as BAS - Bonaire Anticipation Syndrome. I have a continual case of BAS. It starts the moment I get on the plane to come home, because from that very moment I am starting to plan my next trip.

And yes, it sounds like you have a rather severe case. PBD can also be rough, but since I am in a constant state of BAS, I never actually experience much PBD anymore.

However, if you think you have a bad case of BAS right now, just wait until you start preparing for your next trip. The more trips you make, the tougher it is to get through BAS & PBD and the more severe they become!!

My advice? Tough it out - you'll be glad you did!

We used to call it channel fever in the Navy. The night before you pulled into port you would find sailors wandering the hallways at three in the morning, bleery eyed but with this strange smile on their faces.

If I could get Steve to return BOB, Bob would make all your problems seem huggy and fuzzy.

Cecil.. sounds like the voice of experience.. Is that because you were up with them wandering the halls at 3am??

Nah, I had the watch. It was always my lot to have the mid-watch (12PM-6AM) on port days, they really liked me.

I have a bad case of BAS. I am 100% certain the symptoms will end on Saturday, though. :-)

I wish I could add my words of support but I have no idea what it is like to experience PBS, PBD, PBS and BAS. *SIGH* Sorry, I send you hugs though :-).

You will be CURED in a few days! "Brat"
Have a great trip! I will make sure to tell you about my BAS/PBA in Sept. :-)
On another note:
