Howdy all! I need some help. As you may or may not know, I am a diver not a photographer (well not yet - that will change in a few days :-) ). I'm giving a presentation this July at a science conference, which has opened its doors to social sciences. My work deals with policy and the Florida Barrier reef. I am looking for photos from any of the dive spots along the Keys. I would really like to have some of Pennekamp, but any of the locations will work. I spoke with a scientist friend and she indicated that underwater photos would go over quite well. I will put your name on the slide and give you credit. You can email me the photos via my profile, or post them here and I can right click copy them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The title of the paper I am presenting is The Codependency of Humans and Reefs and it is a brief historical look at the relationship humans have had with the Florida Barrier Reef. Again...much thanks!

And Key Largo:

Of course there are manatees, springs, Venice and other dives if you need more for the variations of FL diving. :-)

Tribs, I looked at those are they aren't the greatest...it's like unedited, so ALL of the pics are in there.

Anyway, here's another Key Largo with some sharks and goliath grouper and stuff. :-)

Tribs, I just saw this. There are many on my homepage in my profile from previous trips (2003 was last). The reason I just saw this is I just got back from diving Pennekamp. Last Friday I can tell you, how do I put this politely, it is in rough shape. Remember I just was in Bonaire 3 weeks ago and it is still fresh in my memory.

I dove the Spegiel grove, Benwood and two dives on Frenchmen's reef. It's the density of life that distresses me. It all there but just not as much, eg. cleaning stations are few and far between. The coral was diverse but low density and a lot of dead coral. There is many more large fish which is nice to see. All this is IMHO.

If there is anything specific you need let me know.

I dive The Spiegel Grove, Benwood and the rest of the upper keys reef a few times a month. I disagree with Cecil- there's lots of life. Much of it is bigger than what you'd see in Bonaire (7th trip planned for August 2-9). Lots more big angel fish, nurse sharks, large grouper, big barracuda, etc. The shallow spur and groove reefs have coral growth that differs from the walls of Bonaire and Klein. It's similar to the growth found between Alice In Wonderland and Angel City.

On my most recent trip (this past weekend- 3 Spiegel dives, 1 Duane, 2 Benwood, 1 Double North and 1 at the Christ of the Abyss) I found a cleaning station on the west side of the Benwood that had the most cleaner shrimp I had ever seen in one spot. There had to be at least 20. It figures I had the wide angle lens on my rig... I tried to get a few shots, but they didn't come out too good.

Hiya Tribs... if you still need them, I have some of my last Keys trip and an insanely large eagle ray swimming with us. Or are you just looking for reef photos?

And I hope you're having fun in Bonaire - I am soooo jealous. :-)

Teri
