The New Madrid fault decided to wake us up at 4:30 this morning. The epicenter was down south, but it was a 5.4. We just had two aftershocks. Not good!

I feel like such a wimp because the CA BTers deal with this stuff a lot. But jeepers it was not good.

I just looked on MSN and read about it. So far no one's been reported hurt...This is good! But how scary!!!

It was so freaky. My birds were not happy this morning. My cats disappeared for a while and then slowly came out of hiding. During the after shocks, I had a student in my office and we ended up holding on to each other. Very strange for us flatlanders. Very strange feeling indeed!

I'm sorry - this is going to be in bad taste but... I feel the earth move under my feet..

Not in bad taste, my students were singing that this morning. It's all good, just a little weird.

Tribs, thought of you immediately when I saw the news this morning! I hope all is okay, earthquakes always freak the animals out, they will stay skittish for a few days. The last one we had was a 5.7 and shook pretty darn good and made things fall over. By the way you NEVER get used to them!

As soon as I heard the news on tv this morning I checked here... not enough time to post but had to make sure everyone was okay.
Tribs we had one just a couple of nights ago - only a 3.6 but enough to shake the bed and ceiling fan. I'll still take the quakes over tornados or hurricanes - sort of an ignorance is bliss since there's not all the waiting for it to hit

Tribs - I felt the one this morning up in the NW burbs, but missed the aftershocks here in Chi-town. A co-worker said her dog was acting goofy about 4am, and her neighbor's pets were too. Think they can sense quakes too?

I put Caymus out this morning, he took off, going after something, I look, it's a skunk. I call him and he just keeps going, only way is use the HELP! word. All the training he has had went out the window long ago, but we still keep him sharp with that word. He will stop dead in his tracks and respond, aid the person to get up, and if needed he will start barking like crazy to attract attention.

Lisa, animals can sense it. When we have aftershocks, or tremors, they wake up and are all perked up, or even start whining a bit. And why do you think all those animals and elephants ran for higher ground with the tsunami a few years ago?

I get a little freaked at work when we have tremors, we can feel the building swaying, and we're on the third floor. But I'm with Boom, I'll take that over hurricanies and tornadoes.

But is does not sound right for IL to have an earthquake...
