Have a nice weekend.

Please turn off your computer this weekend, spend time with friends and family, read a book, take a walk???? We all need to cool off here. This is almost the same actions that caused me, and a few others to back off years ago. Bickering between friends. It's just wrong! Time to move on.

Love you guys, be well.

J.

I was doing just that! It's a beautiful day here. Just popped on to check on our Tommy :-) :-)

Tomorrow a group of us are meeting at 6am to watch the sunrise over the ocean and enjoy the company of good friends and warm coffee (before Guy runs off to work!).
I wish the same for you all.... the love of family and friends.

I just offered to create and send a CD of underwater pics to a lad recently certified to dive while on vacation in Bonaire. It takes only a little time on my part, but may be of use to someone I will likely never meet. I'll do it for many reasons; "look at my pics" for one, but more to hook his classmates on what is out there that only he has seen. You have no interest is saving that what you have no knowledge about.

rant/off

You guys (ya'll) :-), should listen to Whitney Houston, the Preacher's Wife, all of the songs on there are more than great. If there was one link, I'd post it. I'm going to play it again tomorrow morning. :-)

Mind you, I'm finding my own religion, though I was born and bred Southern Baptist, spent every Sunday and Wednesday there in my childhood...I'm more Deepak now that I'm all grown.

http://www.chopra.com/

BUT, if someone like Whitney was singing in a local church, I'd be there every time the doors were open. I'm also glad my grandchildren are getting a religious upbringing. I don't think there is anything wrong with learning bible verses that teach a person to be good from the get/go.

Anyway, back to the music. :-) We believe in alot here, including Saturday night and Sunday fun days.

You guys (ya'll), should listen to Marylin Manson, the Antichrist Superstar, all of the songs on there are more than great. If there was one link, I'd post it. I'm going to play it again tomorrow morning.

It is funny that the turmoil here coincided with the surge on Bonaire, well the surge was done yesterday morning and it better be done here or it's Freddie slaps for everyone.

I totally agree! However, you know what's gone on longer? The double standards in moderating. While the task is tough, consistency is the key to success with anything; business or otherwise. It also starts with our leaders here.

Quote:
We are currently in the process of updating our TOC (posting policies), and one of the new policies we will be implementing is "Profane, racial, or insulting or mean spirited language in any form or manner is simply not allowed here and this includes any sort of harassment or cyber bullying. Threats of any sort are grounds for immediate permanent suspension; there is never a reason to resort to personal attacks."

Let's see those teeth.

I wonder...are some people on here exempt from the standards? A couple of people can be nasty and rant about their nonreligious beliefs but quote 1 scripture and oh boy...I would like to think that if a person is secure in their own beliefs (or lack thereof) that they would be tolerant of others' beliefs and just go on with their day. Seb and Alex, and whoever else, if you arent A christian, that is none of my business..it is your choice (and being a Christian is not about "religion", it is about JESUS) It just so happens that I am and that is my choice. Can't it just be left at that and get on with Bonaire LOve?? as I wrote in Seb's email yesterday, "peace-out Brutha's and Sista's" We are all family when it comes to Bonaire love. If we happen to mention something that another doesnt agree with (and if it isnt being nasty, paleez!) them move on....
I may be a new kid n the block, but nothing I have posted here was ever done to be mean to anybody, that should be the bottom line with any post.

That's it, I see the nasties are spreading over to this thread too! Such a shame. Life is way too short for all this nastiness, it is spreading like wildfire and I, for one, will no longer take part in it.

I am leaving BT for a while, will miss chatting, but it is too hard to do that anymore with all this fighting. :-(

Well, I'm glad at least some of you picked up on the lighter side of my post, as it was intended. After all what was said on Seb's thread earlier, I thought I'd have a little fun with Kathy's post and post the exact opposite of what she said.

Kathy, I'm very glad you of all people didn't take offense, thank you, and keep on doing whatever is your thing.

Kobi, my post was not profane, racial, or insulting or mean spirited, it was just simple irony. Maybe the fact that I didn't put "LOL" behind my statement, made the joke a little more difficult to understand, or the English language not being my mother tongue made it sound more harsh than it should have, but I don't think so. If you feel irony and other "difficult" forms of humor should be banned from this forum, so be it. What a great forum it will be

Rog and Karen, your contribution falls into Kobi's category, so you better watch it from now on - you get a star after your name for less. As for the contents of your remark, believe me, non-religious, non-dogmatic people usually have to think more for themselves than believers - after all, in the latter case you simply believe some things rather than think them through. And oh, I'm from planet Earth, same as yours - even if you won't acknowledge it.

Jerry, sorry you were part of this, I'm truly sorry for that, my friend.

Cynde, thanks for at least understanding the joking nature of my post.

A lot of people here is claim to be so very tolerant, but they won't allow space for any opinions different then theirs on any serious subject, even if written in jest. And as unfortunately often is the case, some "religious" people claim that respect for their opinions is sacred, and that non-believers deserve no respect and should simply shut up. There's a discrepancy, to say the least.

Kristi, I think I've answered your post.

Debbie, sorry you are leaving BT over this for a while - as I said, it was not my intention to be "nasty", and personally I think some reactions to my "failed" joke are a lot nastier.

Speaking of which: in the past, when my e-mail was included in my profile, I've had personal hate mail through this board, mostly from gun-advocating rednecks. I then removed my mail address, but still, some of you must have kept it or found it another way (not too difficult on the web these days), as the last few days I've been getting mail again from fellow god fearing BT-ers and their aliases; mail with contents I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. Very, very brave. Although these tissue tigers don't bother me very much, they do upset my wife.

I know I have quite a few friends on this board, a few whom I've even had the pleasure of meeting on Bonaire. But it seems BT is more and more becoming a place for the middle class moral majority where different, non-American views aren't very much appreciated.

So be it. Moderators please remove my profile. I will not post again.

"Debbie, sorry you are leaving BT over this for a while - as I said, it was not my intention to be "nasty", and personally I think some reactions to my "failed" joke are a lot nastier."

Alex, I am sorry to see you leave, because I really did like hearing the European point of view on some issues. Even though sometimes you came off as a pompous a$$, I still appreciated your wit and sarcasm. Above, I just felt as though you were directly mocking Kathy, that's all.

You see, I lost my religion a long time ago. In my case, religion had nothing to do with my comment to you. Although I do not know Kathy personally, I still view her as a caring and decent person. That is why I thought it was "uncalled for."

Actually, I wish you would seriously reconsider coming back on board here. I really did enjoy your tongue and cheek comments.

Alex, I will come back on here to clarify why I posted what I did. First, ALEX, I did not feel you were nasty at all. I KNEW you were joking, give me some credit there...Yes, I agree things got nasty after your joke.

What is sad is that no one can make a joke here on BT nowadays without people taking offense, then attacking. I posted on Seb's thread for him to put on his big boy pants and get over things as a joke too, I am so very tired of people attacking people here on BT, I just don't want to be a part of all that going on. Please re-consider and come back to BT!

Jim, Thanks for your post, BT is getting way too complicated and I do hope Alex will come back too!

My post was MEANT to draw attention to how silly a lot of folks are being and over reacting to things. That is all.

So, what do you say, Alex? Come on back, please?

Wow, seems like BT needs a big time out.

Alex, please don't go. Having met you in person a few times, I can say, he is a genuine wonderful loving caring person, as is his wife. I too, like your perspective on things and appreciate it. And I DID get your joke.

Shall we close this thread too?

Debbie, I'm giving myself a time out as well. To much bad juju right now. I have gotten several emails from wonderful BTers as well who are not going to be posting for awhile. For the same reasons I feel...so, if you think you are not alone in what you are feeling, you are not (the silent majority maybe?)

I think I'll go hang on Scubaboard for awhile, no religion, no nastiness, just diving.

Hugs and peace to all.

Cynde

Well, I for one want to apologize. I was just thinking the night before Eastern :-), about how sensitive a subject it all was, and how I also lost the religion I was raised in (but still kept parts of it), and I had talked to my daughter, and the grandkids were all in the Passion Play, and my credit card bought them all new Easter things, and it was right after that call from her I posted - I was just reckoning with my own beliefs since I'd been challenged earlier. I'd been thinking about the whole religion thing all day.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, or make myself the subject of jokes, it was just how I felt and I posted it (In retrospect, I shouldn't have).

Anyway, we do all love Bonaire, we share that. And we share a love of this planet, and all things underwater and above. We all love life. To me, that's a big thing in common.

But we have to be careful and mindful. I wasn't. I was just being me, and I guess I'll have to work on me.

I am used to being honest. As are many here, I guess.

We can work thru this.

I hope no one leaves. I'm not.
I'm just going to grow and learn from this.

Much love to you ALL.

Kathy - Please don't apologize. I loved your post from the heart. I for one, did not get Alex's post as a joke. (I have never met him and therefore only knew him through the printed word.) He had aligned himself with Seb on another post and I thought he was continuing on maligning you, as I would have expected Seb to do. (I'm sorry Alex - we probably have a different sense of humor, but that's OK!)

Kathy - We feel the same pride in our grandchildren. I am the one who takes my grandkids to Sunday School and church - because I feel it contributes to a well rounded - very grounded - upbringing. Their parents - my son and DIL - don't object - they just don't want to get up on Sunday morning and make the effort to get them there. The kids are always free to make their own choices afterwards, but if they are never exposed to options, how do they choose?

Neither of my kids are regular attenders now, but they carry the true values in their hearts. They are ALWAYS encouraged by us to question everything, and come to their own answers that they can live with.... and I believe they do. In their own way.......
