Well...on Tuesdays I feed the critters. When I get there, I "make the rounds." I check every cage to make sure everyone is fine. Today, we lost our sweet little Amos. When I got to the fox cage, it was odd. No one was out. They were all hiding in something. So I rattled the chain link, which uses causes noses to poke out of hiding places. Amos was in his favorite log. At first I thought he was sleeping, but when he didn't pop up to see who was at the door, I knew it was bad.

This guy was such a sweetie! We took him to programs all over the place. He would walk on a dog harness and sit at your feet while you told everyone about wildlife habitat or why you shouldn't buy animals at the swap (they sell foxes there - they DON'T make good pets, they are up all night talking). I will miss him a lot! He always greeted me at the door. He would play tag and loved to be chased around. He also loved to have his ears rubbed.

Me and my buddy Doing his job at the talk Sitting proud in his cage

Big hugs for you, Jeanine. This is so sad. Amos is a beauty. I know his buddies (the other foxes) will miss him terribly, too.

Great photos of you and of Amos. My heart goes out to you. cb

Amos certainly was beautiful!!! And how lucky to have shared his life with you & the others that cared for him. I know you will miss him, just keep him in your heart, as you are caring for the other animals that love and need you. This is such a good thing that you do.

Jeanine, Big ((((hugs))) I really haven't seen foxes much up close here, just an occasional red fox we get by our area, but Amos sure looks like he was taken care of well by you and I see he sure loved you back too! You are doing a great thing with all the animals you care and love.

Thank you so much everyone. We just got the necropsy back and it appears his heart just gave out. The vet said he was good weight, great coat, but had thickening of a ventricle wall. I feel better knowing it was nature. I always worry that we missed something when one of the critters passes. I feel so responsible for their welfare that I would not handle it well if it were something had done. He is going to missed!

Amos was such a big beautiful lovey. It was wonderful that he was able to help educate the community about wildlife habitats. How fortunate he was able to have a home with you!
My heart is with you during this difficult time.
