Ok, so I don't depress anyone on the webcam thread, I thought I'd start a new conversation over here....
now not only is my husband in Massachusetts to visit his probably dying 90 year old mother, but...

I got a call this afternoon telling me that my step-mother probably has colon cancer. She went in for tests due to stomach pain caused by an infection in her appendix area, BUT incidentally they saw several masses in her colon. They have not yet done a biopsy (possibly tomorrow) due to the infection. They did, however, do a cat scan of her head and chest and found no further masses in those areas (Thank you, God!)....but anyhow...prayers for her and my (very, very sesitive hyper-worrying Dad and step-siblings) are appreciated. I am quite close to my one step sister and my step mother. I am just hoping the infection was a blessing in disguise to catch the colon CA early to treat it, but I have not heard any good prognosis about colon CA...

Thank you!! Love you all!!!

By the way she is considerably younger than my Dad (he's 79), she's probably like 67 or so...

Donna......there is good news with colon cancer...if it is detected early. But until they have "staged" the cancer it is impossible to give a prognosis. But if it is caught early...it is highly curable!!!! Since she apparently was not having symptoms I choose to believe it was caught early because of the infection!!!!!

Our prayers are with your Stepmom, Dad and Step siblings. As well as with you, your husband, and his Mom!!!

Big BT hugs!!!!!!

LaDonna

Donna, prayers and positives to you all.

I lost my mother at 64 to cancer, it almost killed me. One thing I learned is that sometimes it is our time to go, and sometimes prayers can't fix it, but they CAN help fix the person asking for prayer.

First of all, let me add my most sincere good wishes to Donna's step mother.

Secondly, let me tell you all how fond I am of my BT friends, and how much I respect and value you all.

I have a couple thoughts I'd like to add about the god question, and I assure you that I make them with all respect and good will.

I'd like to remind all my buddies that not everyone on this board is a Christian. I'm not. It may be that some of you live in communities where you can assume that all with whom you speak share your religious beliefs. Where I live, "Happy Holidays" starts somewhere around Diwali and rolls on through Kwanza, and we try to give one another the respect each of us deserves by acknowledging our differences.

As a client of mine, Lutheran minister said to me recently, isn't it wonderful it live in a land where we can choose so many different paths to the same end.

I ask you to consider this when you exhort us to trust in God or assure us that He has us in his hands. See how it sounds to you if you substitute Allah or Shiva or the Buddah...please consider the diverse group of friends you are addressing.

Peace and Love,
Barbara

Barbara (and those who agree with her), I will not apologize for being a Christian. I will not apologize for when and how I have given Almighty God praise and credit. Just because I write from the heart, does not mean that I expect everyone else agrees with me. I (and the others) just did not wish to have the name of God blocked.

We DO live in a free society and you and others may worship or not worship whomever you wish. If you mention Allah, Budah, etc...I will just ignore it because it is my belief that they are false Gods...if you do not believe in our God, that is your choice and you or anyone else who feels that way, is free to ignore the mention of His name also.

God (the God I worship) loves everyone and so do I, that doesn't mean I have to agree with everyone nor refrain from mentioning my beliefs. Also no one has been mentioning Jesus (which would indicate Christianity)... our Jewish friends are praying to the same God we Christians are.

I do not take offense when others talk about "karma". I know it is meant well and I expect non-praying people will realize that I want to pray for them because I care for them also.

I hope you understand that the God we serve is a God of love and talking about Him does NOT mean that we love those who disagree with us any less...we just love Him above all.

Respectfully,
Donna

Thank you again to everyone for their thoughts and prayers....today my step-mom had her biopsy...it IS cancer, but they don't have the full results. If she can hold food down, they will send her home tomorrow. After that she will probably begin chemo and eventually have surgery. The road ahead is long, but she is strong and has a positive attitude and much faith.

Love you all...

I told myself I would stay out of this but me being me, here I am typing.
First off, best wishes Donna for your mother in law, I wish her the strength to fight and win this battle!
Second, Religion and politics are generally conversation topics to avoid for good reason. But I must add my two cents! I wholeheartedly agree with Barbara (CB). And by no means Donna is anyone asking you to apologize for your beliefs! I will add that I am quite uncomfortable reading these types of threads. Your statement "If you mention Allah, Budah, etc...I will just ignore it because it is my belief that they are false Gods..." displays to me the kind of thinking I would stand to reason has been the root of many unnecessary deaths, destruction of entire countries and the fall of great societies. I refrain from stating my true feelings of your beliefs because I know it would offend you. (by the way Buddah has 2 d's). If I could make one point it would be that I preferred when religion or religious practices (praying, etc.)where left out of our daily chat. I will also add, I myself have asked for good thoughts and vibes because it's the warmth and caring of people that help me to stay strong in tough situations. My family is living proof that varied religious backgrounds can co-exist peacefully with each respecting the other. I strive to teach tolerance, and acceptance to my children so they may grow up understanding that differences are a part of life, and one should never judge or dismiss another's beliefs. Okay, rant off!
Peace to all.

Software glitches happen; thanks to those behind the scenes!!!!

Donna, thanks for the update on your family. I am so sorry about the diagnosis. Please know that you ALL will continue to be in my prayers. I, as well as GOD, will be with you as you go down that long road!

I will never apologize for my belief in Christ. It is the foundation of my family/life. Certainly no one would be offended that we ask for prayer in our times of need? I am not. This board, just as any public forum, is full of diversity. Diversity is both good and bad; we will never all agree on everything but it's OK. What we do agree on is that we care! I will be here for any of you at any time; religion will not be a barrier.

Many of us are on the same path; mine ends in the Kingdom.
Again, Donna, thank you SO much for your posts. Keep in touch regarding your step Mom and your Mother in Law...I will be here!

I never asked anyone to apologise for their beliefs. I have friends of many religions, and no religion, and we operate in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

As for Donna's post, I'm surprised that my rather mild posting unleashed such a burst of virteol. Thanks for taking off the smiley face and showing us the real you, though. Tacking "respectfully" on the end doesn't change the intolerance.

I'm just not going to get into it about this because I really like people on this board and don't want to offend them. Hopefully, more reasonable folks will take my comments in the manner in which they were intended.
